    export and import the design

    Hi,
I want to do a re-design on one machine and then send my design to the machine I am running the old site on. Is there an export/import that covers evrything in actinic (except the order history) - section tree, page design, business and shipping settings. The 'snapshot' doesn't seem to bring any of design, just the products.

Snapshots should bring everything across .. orders, layouts, images... everything... otherwise they would be no use for backing up. Are you getting errors whilst creating the snapshot?

If you have multisite or designer you can export themes and partial snapshots - these can be set to include or exclude certain layouts etc so it is possible to export the whole theme or just a single layout. This is on the design menu

I've tried it a few more times. I'm getting the section tree and product details. The layout is creating a weird amalgamation of the two layouts - keeping half the colour scheme.

Not getting any of the information typed into business settings or the postal charges, stuff like that.

Orders don't come across at all but that's okay I don't want them.

There are error messages. They all seem to be to do with where the pictures are kept, nothing as drastic as 'we've only brought across half your layout.'

        YIKES!

I have just tried this for the first time importing into a separate machine and it is all to pot. None of the design layouts, stylesheets, CSS images, template images etc are being picked up!

Products and business settings are there but the design is non existent.

Just done it myself, bringing an 8.0.4 across to an alternate PC [dead laptop screen] and the only thing that did not come across was the customisations I had made in the Actinic Stylesheet. A quick Compare (I had backed up the Actinic Stylesheet to a text file the same day the unit died) - make the adjustments and everything is fine.

Bill - was that with a custom outer layout or a default theme?

                That was a default theme.

Wonder if that is working as the required files will already be on the target computer from the default install.... hence the CSS is factory resetting also.

When I installed a snapshot onto different machine the outer layout still links to the myown.css .. I had removed the link to actinic.css. The snapshot did not bring over the myown.css ... I cunningly downloaded from the server from the live site, copied into the site1 folder, restarted Actinic but still none of the formatting would show. The actinic.css which was wiped clean of any code was set back to factory default.

It is as if everything is simply forgotten and Actinic does not know how to handle any of the modifications

have you tried importing the snapshot twice...

its a known "feature" that has been around since beta

Like starting your car with a crank handle at the front?

Intrigued ..... so re-imported but alas the same lack of interest in anything modified externally.

i have had to use the 2 times import to get a design snapshot to work before now.

Like starting your car with a crank handle at the front?
I actually start my car with a key as the crank handle doesn't work ever since i rolled the car down a hill and straight into a metal pole.

Agreed but I thought that was related to design snapshots only. Ive NEVER had this with any full snapshot before - it all worked well until 04.

Tried double snapshots and it does not fix the problems
