Problem initially posted on 5th Feb!

Looking for something `in common` between the two pcs. As Norman suggests, are both using/sharing the same router?

And all network settings are the same between v7 and v8?

Might be an idea to ask Actinic to allow you to upload your site to their test area? Would that not eliminate Rackspace if it worked okay a few times?

    You have my sympathy fella...

Hi - yes we are, and is a Linksys (out of the box, as we upgarded).

Have previously connected main PC directly to cable modem, and is still the same.

Right then - obtained Actinic info to upload to their server, same thing happens.

So its either the PC (but thats been elmininated), the router (also eliminated) or Blueyonder... ummmmm...

          ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I get timeouts when I upload from Blueyonder (telewest, virgin etc) at home but it works perfectly with BT at work. So that could well be your issue, although once it swaps over onto HTTP is always goes through fine for me.
            Cheers

                Whats left?

Your version of Actinic (complete with settings)... so maybe you need a clean (blank, demo) site to upload (to test your actual website snapshot?)... but if it was the settings, it perhaps wouldn't have worked on Actinics webspace... hmmmm might be worth trying an `old` snapshot, one that you think worked?

What also re-boots within Actinic after powering down/up then re-opening Catalog? Is there a `temp file` somehere that only truely re-sets when power is off?

Apologies if I'm waaaaay off target but I just thought I'd try to help the man.

                    Hi again...

Now 8.5 - works ok with v7, but do get some ftp errors but not to the same amount at all.

Have also tried a prior snapshot but, alas, no difference.

On boot have disabled everything including the firewall and AVG and still the same....

Going to try on a friends BT connection tomorrow.

Been onto Blueyonder and they AT LAST found a fault after I 'kicked off'. The line my cable modem is connected to had a slow upload speed and that has now been changed to another at the box (done electronically).

Much smoother upload now, plus upload/download speed has been significantly improved.

However, am still getting the occasional FTP error but not to the extent that I was.

Question for actinic: would it be possible in future versions to just have the option of uploading via HTTP? As with this method there is never any issues.

                        continued....

After testing, I am still having the same issues - after all that. The internet speed on both upload and download is about 30% quicker, but an still getting FTP timeouts.

I still believe that the problem lies with blueyonder so am going to test the syetem tomorrow on a BT line and see what happens.

If it proves that it is blueyonder will be moving to ADSL.

                        Will keep you informed.

I had lots of timeouts a couple of years ago when upoloading with NTL - it used to timeout and swith to html.
Eventually NTL sorted some issue on their side and touch wood it's been fine ever since.

We are having a similar problem here. We can connect Actinic designer (8.5) absolutely fine to the server (Web fusion VPS) but my client who is using catalog client is getting ftp timeout errors every time she attempts an upload.

                              Timeout

                              Hi

I've uploaded our v8 site to a test space to iron out the remaining issues and am also getting time out messages, which never happened in v7. I'm on V8.0.3 and my ISP is Nildram. The upload continues with http OK. I have some problems but I think they are down to layout. I will be posting these to another part of the forum.
