Fasthost Linux 502 Bad Gateway error

I have just switched to the Fasthosts Linux server due to me getting fed up with all the errors i get with the Windows 2003 server and now when i test my network settings i get the 502 Bad Gateway error, i have searched the forums and found people getting this error with Windows 2003 but none with Linux, can anyone help?

What happened when you tried the cures for the Windows server work on your linux server? or haven't you tried them?

I had my site setup and working fine on my test site, then it came to uploading the site to my clients server and it went pear shaped with the old file permissions going up the spout as usual with fasthosts, so i thought ive had enough of this and changed to Linux which i hoped would give me no problems and a smooth installation, how wrong was i?

You mentioned that you found threads on this problem with Windows, but not with Linux. What i am saying is that although they are different operating systems, the cures for Windows servers may well be the same as on Linux.

In other words, whatever the answers/cures/hacks were for the Windows server may work for your Linux setup too.

In general (although i like Fasthosts personally) i think it is fair to say that staying away from them with Actinic sites is the best way forward, whatever the operating system.

I'm sure it can be made to work, but for someone with little knowledge, i would always advise to steer well clear and go for a more dedicated actinic specialist or one where others have it working perfectly. Try webfusion if you want something cheap and effective and guaranteed working.

i dont really have time for that as the site needs to be ready for upload at 1pm this afternoon

Then visit webfusion and that will work 100% guaranteed. Get your backside moving and you could be live by midday easily.

Good luck then, hopefully somebody will jump in whose knows the problem and help you before 1pm. I also like fasthosts and have some sites hosted with them, however i would never choose them just so that all sites were in the same place. They are a pain with Actinic and i would imagine that very few (if any) actinic developers use them.

their are infact quite a few people who use this forum who have had great success with Fasthosts, especially the Linux server, its a shame none of them are about right now

Lets hope you are right, after 2 years of reading and posting in here, i would disagree personally. Fasthosts is one of the most (if not the worst) hosts for Actinic in my experience.

If you get no help by 12.15, i'd still say take a look at webfusion. The network settings are in the problem solvers thread and i know of at least 30 sites hosted on there. It is also very keenly priced, you will get quite a bit of change out of £100.

                    Good luck.

Do you mean "not" instead of "now"?

If so it may be worth checking the permissions on your folders.

                              Try:

                              PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi-bin/

                              And:

                              PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ../acatalog/

If that doesn't work, then try both changes individually.

What happens when you run a network test?
