customer login performance

Hi,

Has anyone else noticed a drop in performance when a customer is logged on and if so is their anything that can be done? Pages load pretty quickly if not logged on but times seem to double as soon as you log in.

Can we have a link and a test username and password please. Also what exact version of v8 ( Help | About ). Has this started happening recently? Were any changes made prior to this happening?

We are currently using version 8.0.3.0.0.0.GLCA

I dont think we have changed anything that would cause this effect.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. I have tested it with the login details provided and can see what you mean, there is a marked slowing in the rendering of the page.

We do have a support contact but when I phoned they said they could'nt see and significant difference in performance. I've raised a ticket about it.

This is quite an issue for us as our customers tend to placed orders of two hundred different products plus and at current speeds people are going to get pretty fed up.

I am experimenting with setting up customer accounts and have noticed the same drop in performance.

I would love to offer customers a login facility to make their ordeing easier but so far everything seems to be rather offputting.

Any answers on this performance issue would be gratefully received.

We still have performance problems on one server. We moved it over to Actinic hosting and the performance is fine so I can only presume its something to do with our web server. Its a dedicated server with 1and1 but they wouldnt get involved so we still have the same issue.

could the login performance of one of our Actinic site on our own webserver which is slow compared with the same site being hosted by Actinic be anything to do with the version of perl?

On the Actinic website under hosting is the following paragraph but the link isnt working

"Installation of mod_perl to improve performance
mod_perl is a Perl module that has been shown to have an effect on the performance of Actinic on Apache servers."

Anyone know anything about this?

I've had a look and that part looks pretty simple.

How easy is it to actually instal mod_perl. I've had a look on the Apache site regarding installation and there seems to be quite a few options. We have a dedicated 1and1 Linux box using Apache V2.

Slow when logged in

We are using V8.5 and don't seem to be getting slow peformance on logged in, we are on a dedicated server running Apache 1.3.37 without mod_perl (which I believe is now mod_perl2).
You can try it by logging in our site as User:test/password:test , I can't see any difference logged or not logged in.

John your site is certainly fast whether logged on or off but that doesnt explain why when we are using a very similar setup one of our sites runs fine when hosted on an Actinic web server and slowly on ours when logged on.

I assume that the only difference between logged on and off is that Actinic runs scripts to keep track of the logged on person so it must be the performance of these scripts running on our box that are the bottleneck. Thats why I thought mod_perl might be the answer.

Hi Folks

after reading your comments i thought i had better check mine and
i noticed zero difference between being logged in and not logged in,

i personally use a couple of Microsoft Servers to run all the many sites without problems besides a few issues a while back but that turned out to be a corrupt website not the perl,

i am interested to know if anyone has had this problem with a windows server
