Multiple sites, sharing SSL certificate

Hi,

Using 1 & 1, I have uploaded my first site and am using the free SSL certificate that's given with Business Pro package. I am now ready to upload my next site on the same package (thanks to previous replies) but would like to use the same SSL certificate (my other sites will be trading names of my main business so all transactions will be processed the same).

Can I use the same SSL settings as my first site?

I've searched the forum but cannot find exactly what I'm looking for.

Hi,

I thought what the heck and uploaded the site and when I go to checkout it takes me to my original domain checkout which it then informs me that it is empty.

I have changed the script ID of my 2nd site so I assumed that the SSL bits of my Cgi-bin and acatalog for my second site wouldn't conflict.

Look forward to your thoughts.

I did it!!

How to have multiple sites running from one SSL certificate in 1 & 1 (this assumes you have set up a successful SSL certificate for your first website. I use the one provided free in the Business Pro package as its worth £3.99/ month);

Just a comment: my second site (domain2) is operating as a subsidery of my main business. The customer will be refered to the SSL checkout but will have domain1 in the address. If you are running totally separate businesses then you may want a separate SSL certificate.

Step 1
in 1&1 control panel I created a subdirectory from the root directory called 'clocks'. I then set up the acatalog & cgi-bin subdirectories from that and gave them the correct permissions (777 for acatalog & 755 for cgi-bin).

Step 2
I created a subdomain called secure under www.domain1.co.uk in 1 & 1.

Step 3
I used the same setup in actinic 'network settings' for my second site as I did for my first site except the following changes:

I configured the 'Standard' network settings to read:
CATALOGUE URL: http://www.domain2.co.uk/acatalog/
CGI-BIN URL: http://www.domain2.co.uk/cgi-bin/
PATH TO CGI-BIN: ./clocks/cgi-bin/
WEBSITE URL: http://www.domain2.co.uk/
CGI SCRIPT ID NUMBER: 2 (or 3 if you already have two websites etc)

I configured my SSL network setings in actinic to read:
CATALOG URL: https://sslrelay.com/secure.domain1.co.uk/clocks/acatalog/
CGI-BIN URL: https://sslrelay.com/secure.domain1.co.uk/clocks/cgi-bin/
PATH TO CGI-BIN: ./clocks/cgi-bin/
WEBSITE URL: http://www.domain2.co.uk/
CGI SCRIPT ID NUMBER: 2 (or 3 if you already have two websites etc)

I then uploaded, purchased something, went to the checkout and as if by magic the little padlock appeared.

Quite easy really (albeit, it's taken the last 4 hours to achieve).

I have noticed on the knowledge base that 1&1 (or 1and1 or oneandone or one&one) hasn't go a specific page. I agree with another contributer that 1&1 is quite popular and perhaps should have one. Alternatively, could the Actinic developers have a help page or a 'network wizzard' for the most popular web hosts?

I'm going to bed now, yet another hurdle beaten along the path of the 'perfect eshop'.
