    Cutting and pasting components

We have a gift wrapping option for many products. We are using a hidden product as an associated product for a component. Rather than manually create the component for each product, I have created one component which works fine and then cutting & pasting the component to the other products. However, when you paste the component the "component as separate order line" option disappears - thus, the component appears as an apparently free option within the shopping cart!

Is there a work around or do I really have to recreate the component for each product?

    Thanks in advance

Are you using paste or paste as duplicate?

I remember this on V7, whatever you seem to do it will not do an exact copy. As there was only a few copies for me i just worked around it, in your case this is not an option of course.

I'd contact support to see if they can do anything for you, i'm sure that i never found a way round it.

Maybe a better solution would be to have a check box that people select on the product if they would like this service. This option could have a condition wrapped around it, so that it only showed on products that you would like it to. Maybe anything that can be gift wrapped could be included into a "gift wrapping available" category and the condition could check to see if the product was included in that category or not.

        Just a thought.

I use this method for many of my products, and I can copy & paste components without any problems, and the "component as separate order line" option is still available - the pasted component retains all of the features of the original, but these all remain editable in the Component Details box.

Very strange, i have just tried this on V8 and still the problem persists. Not sure what you are doing different Brian. I have tried a number of combinations to see if it is specific to a certain setup and it fails everytime.

To summarise if you setup a component, apply it and then CTRL-C and then select another product and CTRL-V, it does not offer the separate order line option on the pasted component.

Send us both a copy of your software please Brian, this is always an annoying issue that i have just lived with.

              Lee,

Are you sure that the product to which you are pasting the component has a 'Pricing Model' of 'Sum of Product and Component Prices'? If not change the pricing model and you will see the component does actually carry everything across.

              Kind regards,

Nice one Bruce that's the one.

I think the main problem is that to change the pricing model, you first have to have a component added, this is where the confusion comes in. Once you have added the copied component, if you then select the pricing model, the line appears.

When you add the original component to the product, it automatically changes the pricing model for you, however when you paste one in it doesnt do this - just one to remember i guess. Unless actinic can automatically change the pricing model (as it does when you first add a new one) to the correct selection as this could take hours of work for some people.

Having to amend each one kind of takes away from the great feature of being able to copy them over. Maybe one for the wishlist?

                Thanks for your help.
