    Fixes & Downloads for Actinic

    Hi all,

We're currently interested in creating a few fixes for different things with Actinic and offering them either for free or for a small price. We have a few in the pipeline. We've worked on a few websites in V8 & V7 and found ways around different things.

I just wanted to know what Actinic's views are on this and indeed what everyone else's views are? Do any of you sell your own fixes? I know that Norman does. Is it worth doing? Is it possible to become an affiliate of Actinics?

    Thanks

p.s Sorry didn't know what forum this went in.

    Hi Rob

Yeah - we love people to come up with plug-ins and add-ons for Actinic. The best thing to do would be the give sales a bell on 0845 129 4800 and talk about the 'Developer Subscription', which will get you a copy of Designer, support for a year and a training course to help you get started on the right foot.

Thanks for the reply Chris, sounds like a good idea, what kind of costs are involved in that?

        Hi Malcolm,

At present we don't want to jump the gun (sorry!) so as soon as everything is ready we will let you know what's available.

        Thanks again.

The Developer Subscription is described on http://www.actinic.co.uk/products/developer_sub.htm - there's some costs there as well.

Don't make the mistake of creating plug-ins that you think people want, ask people what they want and then make those. This is one of the biggest mistakes companies make IMO. If you are going to spend some time creating plugins and supporting them, you will need to know that a fair few people need them, something that sells once or twice is useless to you.

Communicate with the people who you want to buy off you is what i'm saying.

We tend to do both, we use most of our plugins in house for our own stores and so if we need a feature we add it (automated customer account generation for One Stop Order Processing for example, Pat got fed up of creating accounts manually so he added the functionality to the product), but most of the time we react to requests from our customers.

                  Hi Lee

At present it's things that we've created to help our own actinic websites. I agree, just going ahead and making things could lead to a lot of wasted time and effort.

What are some of the major issue's that people are currently getting annoyed with?

                  Thanks all for replying.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some fixes/add ons etc they would like? We'll try and come up with something for it.

                    Thanks

Try and create a fix for the PayPal checkout error.

It's a bug by the looks of things. The checkout allows the buyers to enter all their details but upon clicking on the link to the PayPal checkout, a 'Page Not Found' error occurs.

Strangely enough though, if I click BACK in my browser and click REFRESH and RETRY, the PayPal checkout THEN loads. This is no good however as my customers aren't to know this.

It's not just me either, quite a few users are experiencing this.

Look at the wish list there are several on there BUT I would suggest that you should put Gift Vouchers at the top of your list. This has been requested so many times I have lost count.
