Pricing & VAT issue ( again!..)

I am a newbie to this forum and very very new to Actinic V8 .This is the first time I have ever built a web site + on-line shop .... so Micky Mouse answers greatly appreciated
I have trawled through some of the threads on pricing and a VAT issue I have had .
My conclusion is that it appears that pricing is either shown inclusive of or exclusive of VAT ( adjusted via Settings /Site Options) and that you can't enter a price eg. £250 and have it displayed simply as £250 on the website - so you have to enter the price ex. VAT and have it calculate and then display the price 'inclusive of VAT'
MY QUESTION: My site will be selling garden machinery /mowers - none of which is likely to invite overseas purchases. Can I enter the RRP directly into Actinic and then go to Business Settings /Tax and deselect the tax option there so that the tax calculation isn't perfomed? I've been reluctant to do this in case it does something horrendous. But this might then allow me to simply enter the price that I want displayed on the site and not have to go back through all my pricing and adjust everything exc. VAT so that it then displays the price inc. VAT!
If this is ok to do - would I still have the option of having the wording ( inclusive of VAT) appear after the price.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Our pricing formula has already been applied to the 1500+ products we'll be selling on the site and I can't believe I have to go back and recalculate every price just so I can display it correctly on Actinic. Can somebody please help!!!

Yes you can do that but you will not get a VAT breakdown in the shopping cart, receipt and invoices. Only the order total will be displayed.

I'm afraid at the moment Actinic can only add on VAT and not take it off the product price.

There is a big wish list request for this so it should be implemented in a future major release.

Export the products into an excel spreadsheet, run a formula to change them to what you want and then reimport. No need to trawl through each price when excel can do it all for you in about half hour or so.

Hi Oliver,

Do you mean all your prices are including VAT?

Here's a work around to get them excluding VAT but take backups first.

Browse to C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Sites\{SiteDir}

- Look for a file called ActinicCatalog.mdb (its usually the biggest in the list)

- Double click on the file and Access will open

- Open up the “Product” table

- Browse to around the 16th column and you should see the column “Price”

- Highlight that whole price column and copy and paste the data to a new Excel file

- You now need to apply some sort of formula on that column to take off the VAT (/1.175??)

- Copy and paste the revised prices back into the Price column in the database

- File | Save

- Exit Access



Now open Actinic and hopefully all your product prices will include VAT.

But please dont forget to backup

lol Toby, you do need to add a "round" function too i find, as the figure is already in its lowest common denominator.

OK, that sounds easy but for one major problem.......I am cr*p at formulas or should it be formulae.

Can someone who is good at that sort of thing post what formula is needed please?
