Mistakenly I had previously thought that if I kept my patches upto date and my sites seemed ok - then everything would be peachy

Being as this is a feature of Designer and being as Actinic have all the Developers who use Designer's contact details...
and being as this has the potential to break lots of Actinic's customer's sites...
and being as one would have thought that their reputation was quite key to their success...
one does think that they might have sent an email to everyone of us saying - these "partial site design" things are broken don't use them...
and then got around to fixing the problem...
or maybe I'm missing something...Wayne Theisinger
The Web's just settling in. We got the tech, now let's put up something that matters.

I agree with you totally - you would think that they would want to get more designers to use the software and that was originally the plan for V8 ie more designer focused but its been a flop IMO as it has never worked - the only good bit is Client which is cheaper than buying the full version.

Can I push for a serious look into resoloving this current problem that's reared it's ugly head again with the design import not working. I heard it was meant to be bug fixed in 8.5.0 but I can't get selectors to import and I've got various setups where I need to be able to send layouts.
If I have to change this around to start getting snapshots again then it's going to have serious impact on projects.
as with lots of bugs - they have been reported by developers, but sadly never acted upon - or they simply get added to the huge list of bugs.
Several of us (last September) fell foul of partial design snapshots, but because the problem didn't affect everyone, we were accused of dramatising the situation. Much the same as when Lee and I insisted PPP didn't work, look at the egg on face Actinic took over that one.

accept nowadays as the norm.
With regards to this specific issue of the partial site design and layout selectors - yes it was working in 8.5.0 and now appears to be broken again in 8.5.1. No-one is more cross about this than I am. And it will be fixed.

I understand Chris, it's just frustrating being on this end as reporting of bugs seems to take so long until something is done about it, unless it is a real shocker, like PPP or the card number fiasco. Obviously it's all hands to the pumps when these problems surface, but they can't be the only reason why somethings are delayed surely?
Hierarchical exports - what's happened there? These are fundamental to our use of the software without an array of snapshot solutions, how come they still trash on more than 12 months old software? Nobody communicates on these things and we are left thinking WTF is going on, does anybody care etc.
I am in no doubt that the whip is being cracked at the towers and everyone is working their nuts off, i would just like to see a bit more transparency and openness towards communicating with us.
I guess, i and at least a few others, would love to understand how old bugs keep reappearing in new versions. It happens every single release, what is causing this? On the surface it sounds like too many people with their hands in the mixing bowl and nobody applying version control. These keep masking the good work as we are always presented with something bad amongst the new features - but more importantly something we had written off as fixed. There has to be a flaw somewhere in this area, it happens far too many times.
Keep up the good work and also the openness, what the big wig said the other day although a little surprising, calmed things down almost immediately. Mistakes happen, we all make them too, but it is refreshing to see such honesty, i think many respected him for that.
