No, but neither the release notes nor the day no reflect the correction that was made in the Beta for the shipping database error. Therefore it is a valid and polite question.
Hi Jonathan, From what you have reported previously on 8.0.4/8.5, here is what the developers have said:
All issues are down to a serious bug. If you restrict variable usage to certain content categories, and you change the category of the main product, then the code removes/adds variables according to the new category constraints for the main product, but it doesn't maintain the list of variables of the duplicate product. This bug messes up the UDP list in the DB and causes crash (see below)
Until we fix this issue, we should discourage users to change category of products which have duplicate and there is at least one variable whose visibility is constrained.
OK - thanks for the extra info, I have been able now to pinpoint this issue. I'm afraid this didn't make the cut for 8.5, but it will be included in a future maintenance release. I have written to the people who make these decisions this morning to strongly recommend this fix.
In the meantime, if you do change the available content categories for a variable, you can select 'Modifiable in Duplication' and then de-select it again and it will update all the duplicate fields with the correct data.
Hi there, I've moved these questions to a new thread - hope that's cool.
Richard - I do take your point, but I would say that for every person that has found issues during upgrading, there are many others who have upgraded without problems - and certainly we haven't been inundated with support calls from people having upgrade problems.
With forums you like this, people only report the negatives - and that's fine - but that is only part of the picture.
Richard - the store in question is fine, although it won't go live until this issue is resolved. The problem I raised regarding variables will only affect you if you are using duplicates and content categories to restrict which variables are shown on the Properties tab. I use variables extensively for product cross-referencing so need to use content categories to speed the product detail display up a bit.
It's worth upgrading just for the shipping enhancements.
