    Copy and Pasting Text problem

Hi Folks i am trying to copy and paste text for a product off the wholsalers website (with his permission of course)

However when i paste the text into actinics full descrition or extended product info etc.. I get a message as follows :

an error occured while creating the product database table. String Data, right truncated

I have tried copying and pasting into MS word first and still have the same problem copying from there.

    Can anyone help

    Thanks
    Keith

Are you only copying text or including html code?
    Try pasting into Notepad first.

Tried pasting into note pad still same error ??

Also how do i get the full desription of the product to display text ?? i have also added an image but neither text or image ever shows. The only i can get product description and image is by adding a fragment and inputting text and
      images there.

Can you possibly post some example of exactly what text you are pasting and describe exactly into where you are trying to put it. This will help fully understand what's going on.

            Ok here goes

When you have a product in one of your sections you have to input price, reference if you want and short desciption etc.. while setting up the new or existing product.

When i then enter information about the product (text) in the Full Description Box by copying and Pasting text of my suppliers site or any other for that matter i get the error as descibed above.

I have tried pasting into word document first and note pad then saving them and then copy and pasting from these documents into the full description box of the product as mentioned.

But still get the above error. The amount of words i am pasting is not excesive as i first thought so to tested it i reduced it to a few words but still the same error.

Basically all i want is an image and more information of my products for the customer see and read . This would be a 1000 times easier than typing all over again especially when i can copy and paste text as agreed from my supplier.

              Odd one Keith.

From what I'm understanding the c&p works to another application - just not into Actinic.

Have you tried to just type some 'words' into notepad and then cut and paste that into the description field?
If that works then it's doubtful a database issue, but if doesn't then I think there is a problem with your database, in which case you could either contact Actinic support to check your database or/and restore an earlier backup and retry.

Don't use Word it will add unseen characters - always use a text editor such as notepad. Sounds like you're almost there...try just a couple of words or so at first(in notepad). If there's an issue with the amount it will accept we can figure that out later - lets first get the c&p working.

Ok it works from note pad but again only so many letters which isnt really that many approx 231 letters including spaces between words. I counted them so it might be give or take a few letters.

Up to that many its ok before i get the error. In addition thats even inputting text direct in the description box without copy and pasteing from anywhere else at all

It seems copy and Paste work but only up to a certain number of letters
                    the same when typing direct

Quick up date 255 characters to be exact i used a free online counter

Ok what i have done is preview the page with the maximum 255 letters it is allowing to see what happens and what i have noticed is it has expanded the web page so that you have to use scroll bar at the bottom of the browser.

It would appear from what i can see is the text is not going down to the new line below after a certain width is reached. It seems there is no margin set so the text just goes on and on continious on one line untill 255 letters are reached and the end.

Just tested it with other products same issue no more than 255

Some headway. Try changing the layout for the product to perhaps 'Standard Layout Using CSS' and see if it truncates. I've used this layout way above 255 characters.

I almost don't want to ask, but are you sure you are pasting into the Full description box on the General Tab?

Short Description has a 255 limit, as do some of the other text entries, but Full Description should happily take several THOUSAND words.

I have tried it or at least i think i have done what you have said. Is this something i need to change for the whole site or just this product ??

I recall something like happening before this before where the text goes on and on. This was when i was setting the search options.

I think its only come to light since trying to enter more words for my new products, It would appear its been there (the problem that is) for a while.

Its got to be something to do with the layout settings. Just cant figure which one to change to try it
