Turn Off Ordering

Hi.

I am setting up a new site for a customer who, for the moment, wants the ordering to be switched off until all the merchant details are set up later next month. For the moment he wants the site to be a 'brochure'.

Is it possible to 'switch off' all online ordering until such a time as we are ready to process them? Ideally we don;t want any mention of the cart or add to basket buttons.

YES

Go To business settings | ordering tab then tick the box suspend online ordering

You will still be left with cart summaries etc.

Id create 2 layouts, one for ordering on and one for ordering off.

In the off version, remove all cart summaries etc.

When ready to go live, just change the layouts back to the originals.

If you want to go down this road, copy your layouts and then edit these to remove the bits you do not want, then use these modified ones until you are ready to go live then change them back.

Using a block if to test a variable (set to test Ordering == off for example) could be wrapped around all the items you dont need. Changing the global setting of the variable to "on" would then allow the items back again .. possibly quicker than having duplicate layouts.

I did think the same but thought it would be complicated for him to do and hard to explain also.

There you go anyway, all 3 options, makes your choices and takes your picks.

I am currently in love with the block if feature .. hacking lists, layouts, site maps and all sorts to come up with something completely different .. fantastic stuff

I can't stand the characters included in the conditions making them hard to read. I'd like to go on a "block if" and variables course, they scare the begeebers out of me lol.

I managed to kill Actinic in it's entirety the other night with some insane ground-hog-day style loop thing I had going with a block if.

Best way to learn I found was to check out the existing ones that are there and see how they are formed and what they do. The second trick (and you can't have any friends to be able to do this) is to go through the library and lists etc and look at what options you have available - otherwise you can spend days trying to find something that is not there - it ain't fun but like reading the dictionary you know it makes sense in the long run
