    I am considering using Actinic for a catalogue site of about 100 items. I have been warned against using Actinic by someone who claims:
    • it does not scale

    I can believe it won't easily work across multiple servers but with the right hosting I assume it can handle a reasonable amount of load. One problem in countering this allegation is that there aren't many high profile etailers listed in http://www.actinic.co.uk/examples/index.htm so it may be hard to disprove.
    • it does not do multiple clients

    I must admit I don't understand all the different licensing options but given the client-centric architecture I can can see this might be an issue if the catalogue is developed in a place that is physically seperate from the dispatch - hopefully the answer to this is simpler

    I have to say given my experiences today.....

    Purchased the product yesterday, still not had an activation code despite being promised one by 5.30 pm last night

    Completely unable to get through to the sales number or the support number today....both lines are permanently engaged!!!

    I am already regretting my purchase and the time and effort I put into evaluating the product.

    I would be extremely careful before purchasing today....something is wrong

      I can't comment on the true traffic loading regarding servers, but as far as products are concerned there are stores with from just a 100 products up to 10s of thousands - depends what you mean by scaleable. You can also have multiple clients for order processing on the same system with another client dedicated to managing the content.

      I'm sure others can add more...

        Most high profile e-tailers will tend to have bespoke carts developed for their specific needs.

        It is no problem to maintain the catalogue in site A and receive orders and dispatch at site B. This can be done with the Actinic software and I know a forum member (gabrielcrowe) has developed a utility to access the order database etc over a network

          You can use the product for 30 days without your key.

          It is likely the phones are faulty - I don't belive they've taken your money and run.

            Entering the key should not lose you any work - to be safe though make snapshots on a daily basis just in case

              Thanks but I went through the 30 day evaluation process and purchased at the end of it.

              The product will now not run.

              I have also tried sending them emails and they are not being read.

                Backup, uninstall it, delete the Actinic folder on your c drive, reinstall again, and get another 30 days.

                  Drag the contents of the site folder to a temp location. Unistall Actinic and re-install again - this should get you back to a 30 day version - drag the old files back into the site folder.

                  If there is a major problem with the phonelines they may not get emails either unless they have a satellite connection

                    I will do that

                    I hope you are right about actinic as I have 2 clients whose sites I built during the evaluation period and another 4 clients waiting for their ecommerce sites building. I would hate to have to go and learn something else now
