Heavy Items Overseas

The majority of out items are fairly small and lightweight and posting them overseas is no problem. However, we do have a few items that are very heavy and we only deliver to the UK market.

Can anyone think of a way to block overseas customers from ordering certain items?

I can't really do it on weight as someone might order lots of 'little' items that add up to the weight of one of the big items (if you see what I mean).

I really need something like a tick box that says "don't ship this item overseas"

I'm not sure that this is possible. I've tried various things with the new shipping setup but can't get it to work. I've asked our development team if it is possible just in case I'm missing something.

You could apply a unique high weight to these items (eg 99kg).
Tick ship seperately.
Set up UK shipping tables for 99kg to equal a certain postage.
Set overseas shipping tables to only allow a max weight of xkg (less than 99kg).

It does mean that total shipping for an order including both these items and regular items will be distorted, but allocating a set and seperate postage charge to heavy items would seem fair from a customers POV IMHO.

I have this problem. I calculate postage by weight, and the shipping bands for overseas stop at 2kg (the Royal Mail limit). This means the customer gets an 'exceed postage limits' message and they usually contact me by email and I tell them how much its going to be by carrier.

Just realised - this is the V8 forum and I'm on V7. Postage handling may be different.

Hi Richard,

I'm afraid that there is no clever way of doing this with the new v8 shipping setup so the suggestions already made are the way of getting round the issue. I will add it to the wish-list to be able to restrict a product by shipping zone though.
