    Mailform Vs Mailto

    V8.5
On clicking 'Contact Us' MS Outlook client kicks in. I don't want that - I want a mailform similar to (or same as) P_mail_form.html that resides in Previed directory.

Having spent a long time trawling the forum, Faq & AUG, I cannot figure out how to get Actinic to display mailform...Any help will be thankfully received and faithfully applied!

Also is it ok to put a third party Mailform stuff in the cgi-bin? and use the 3rd party mailform on a conventional webpage in the site root directory?

    mailform is a cgi-bin call

    cgi-bin url/mf00000x.pl?ACTION=SHOWFORM

where x is the script ID number from Network settings.

If the alternate mailform script name is different, I can't see why it would not work, but I would consider keeping the page in the acatalog folder for easier maintenance. If you save the html page in the site folder and add it to Additional Files, Actinic will even take care of uploading it for you.

      [QUOTE=wjcampbe]mailform is a cgi-bin call

      Thanks for the reply Bill

The main problem is that when I upload the site, the "Contact Us" is a 'mailto' tag that invokes OUTLOOK. I want the MailForm to show!

I you go to www.yandles.co.uk/shop.html and hover over the Contact Us button you will see (Internet Explorer) at the bottom that the link is "mailto:info@yandles.co.uk"....

What I want is the link to read:
      http://www.yandles.co.uk/cgi-bin/mf0...CTION=SHOWFORM

I have searched & searched Actinic but have not been able to figure out how to change the variable/coding etc so that the =SHOWFORM is executed…

When I directly address: http://www.yandles.co.uk/cgi-bin/mf0...CTION=SHOWFORM it gives the form that I want.

How do I change from mailto to =SHOWFORM?

Which layout / selector are you using to insert the link?

          Hi Jont
That is the whole point - I don't know! The layout is as per "Out of the box"
I have only set up about 600 products, uploaded them and started to test the site.

As far as I know, I have altered nothing within the links...

I have looked at many Actinic sites an all have the '=SHOWFORM'... Mine gives mailto!!!!!!

I cannot find the bit within Actinic that controls it... ActinicVariable = SendMailPageLink I think is responsible but I cannot fine it - spent many frustrating hours looking...
          Any clues?
          Thanks

At the place you want to enter the item click to insert a new layout (the pink swirl) in design view, tick the "used fixed layout" and start entering "nav" into the "list containing" box just above.... click on NavigationItem and then on one of the "Contact...." options beneath

I wondered what a Pink Swirl was - My mind boggled - however after a search I twigged on!

I will have ago and report back... However, I want to buy UltraEdit first so that I have a decent text editor on board.

                PROBLEM SOLVED!
Because I am still setting up the site, I had not fully configured the Network settings with smtp settings. (Our mail server is still with another host but will shifted to Actinic Hosting soon)

As soon as I put in the appropriate SMTP data and updated the site, the MailForm appeared - Magic...
