    Exporting from 8.5.0 just hangs!

    Hi All,

I'm having problems exporting catalog from v8.5.0. I can name the export okay, choose where to save it but as soon as I hit 'Finish' I get the progress bar but nothing else and no progress. The export fails to complete I have a big site so I left it for a while came back to PC hours later and Actinic had closed itself the file had been created on the desktop but 0k in size.

A new default Actinic site did the same thing and there's only a handful of products in it.

    Any ideas? Help appreciated

Do you get a 'tick' next to Preparing to Export even?

      Hi John

Did you manage to resolve this one as I am getting the same thing. (first time I have tried in 8.5 HBKA MU)

It will export the shipping table OK but not the catalog.

It gets as far as Preparing Export and 4 segments in the progress bar.

The blank file is created but then it stops.

When you cancel it it comes up with an error box that says "Invalid Argument Encountered".

It seems to be an Actinic problem rather than the site as the same happens in a fresh Site 1.

        Have you compacted the database?

Ohh yes. Compacted, stopped, restarted, thrashed with a stick and much more but the problem persists.

It happens on all machines connected to the MU db and all sites (a fresh Site 1, our working dev site and a gash copy).

All have full rights to the db share.

I have now taken a snapshot from our MU db on a fresh stand alone version of 8.5 HBKA on another machine and it works fine from there.

So the culprit here looks like MU?

The MU db is on a new W2003 workgroup server patched up to date. The users all authenticate and map to the same share. The authentication gives them full rights.

The server is in the Intranet zone of the user PCs.

              Alistair,

I would suggest giving James a call on this one, that is if you have not already.

              Kind regards,

Not resolved yet but finally (today) the folk at Actinic towers have managed to replicate our problem so it is now with development to work out what is going on.

Looking forward to a solution soon

Is there any solution on this yet? I'm trying to do some development work for my client using thier data, but I have no way of exporting the catalogue other than running queries on the database. Running queries on the ActinicCatalog database is horrendous, since it has very few primary keys and no foreign keys.

I've tried everything. It's a large site with a lot of data, so I've tried deleting everything from a copy of the site except for the categories I'm interested in. Managed to get the database down from 220Mb to 20Mb (Incidentally, it's possible to make the database more efficient by adding some primary keys where tables don't have any), but still the export hangs.

Basically I get the "Preparing Export" window up, 4 bars into the progress meter and it just sits there.

                      Hi Chris,

Do you also get the invalid argument error when you click cancel?

I believe this could be a bug where the site has many user definable properties.

How many records are in the UserDefinedProperties table?
                      Regards,

Yes I do get that error message on cancel.

In my reduced version of the site (now a 10Mb db), I've got 5750 records in that table. In the full original site there's nearly 2 million.

I'm beginning suspect that a certain amount of data in these tables is redundant as some records don't seem to have ID values in fields which I would have thought they'd be in. Unfortunately it's very difficult to tell since there are no relationships defined in the database, so finding obsolete data records is tricky. Enforced referential integrity would be useful.

                        Taz

Can you log a support query here so our developers can take a look at your database. I'm sure we could clean it up.

                              Not sorted yet.

Although developers say it is additional properties I have cut a site back as far as possibe and still get the problem.

Anyhow once the probloem starts we even get it an untouched site1. We have managed to cure it for 5 minutes by creating a new site then all sites will work OK for a short (minutes not hours) time before the export fails again.

I struggle to see why a fresh site1 should have the same problem if the problem is to do with additional properties in our production site.

Incidentally most of those additional properties are due to Norman's MultiImage and AFAIK he doesn't experience the same problem elsewhere.
