    Loosing Graphics

    Anybody offer some advice please.

I have created a site from just standard themes and colours, nothing fancy. The site is hosted by a company called “Namesco” also known as “simply.com”

If I post the site without any SSL security it works fine, but as soon as I turn on SSL, I loose the graphics in both the “view cart” and “checkout” views.

This is my very first attempt to do this and I have spent all weekend trying find an answer, could anybody possibly point me in the right direction? Thanks for any suggestions or help.

If you would like to look at the site to see what I am trying to explain it is at

    www.justpredators.co.uk

do a forum search or read the existing help on 'symbolic link' - then have the host create one.

Thanks for the advice, I did a search and note that last year Simply told another member they do not do symbolic links!

But I have put in a support request for one, so well just have to see how I get on.

Well I did as Bill suggested, I trod bodly and asked Simply to create a “symbolic link”

Heres the reply, quite frankly I think I might be better off looking elsewhere for a hosting company. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

There is no such thing to set up. The urls http://www.justpredators.co.uk and https://secure.hosts.co.uk/~justpredators.co.uk point at exactly the same place.

For reference, a secure certificate doesn't provide secure webspace - there is no such thing. An SSL certificate only provides a secure encrypted connection between the server and the browser.

As Actinic should have told you, the reason that your graphics are missing when you run under https would be that the links to the graphics start with a "/" eg img src="/acatalog/images/picture.jpg"

A "/" at the start of a partial url means "go to the top level"

On a normal http connection, this normally isn't an issue. On https, however, this make the full url https://secure.hosts.co.uk/acatalog/images/picture.jpg - not the correct location, which should be https://secure.hosts.co.uk/~justpredators.co.uk/acatalog/images/picture.jpg"

The solution to this is to make sure that any links you have, whether they are to be used on a https connection or not, do not start with a "/"

Looks like good advice to me, not sure what the issue is. The graphics don't show because of their relative addresses not pointing to the correct locations. Change those and it should be fine.

Don't think it has anything to do with what the hosting company is saying. It is probably because the baseref in the checkout template is missing, so it doesn't know where to find the images (from what I can see none of the images start with "/").

Anyway, not sure why it is blank! Do you have a different layout for the checkout? You could try restoring the 'Default Base Href' layout to factory setting and see if this helps. Otherwise, if you have a support request in already phone Actinic and tell the the baseref is missing from the checkout, they should be able to fix it in minutes.
            Cheers
