Change Alt tag information

Does anybody know how I change the product image layout to use your own variable for alt tag in place of product name? I think I'm in the right place Design - Libary - Layout - Product Image ?? Can anyone steer me in the right direction from here? I have checked the Advanced User Guide but it's not there.

Create your own variable and insert this new variable into the existing layout replacing the current actinic used variable for the alt attributes. i.e.

if it says alt="blah blah variable", then include your variable in here instead. You will then of course need to insert the text that you would like to use in the variable .

Create your own variable at product level and then replace the highlighted one as per this:

You can then enter your own text that will be used as alt text on the product image.

Don't forget to set a parent value in case you forget to set a user defined value .. it may be preferable to use a block if to test if the user defined text is there, if not to insert the vanilla product name. This could help enormously in SEO if any variables are not defined.
