external database information changes - does actinic see the change?

I have various fields in actinic linked to an external database
when I change one of those fields EXTERNALLY (ie NOT from inside actinic) does actinic know that I've made changes so that it can update the pages containing those products or does it carry on blisfully unaware of the changes

Alternatively, is there a field within the [Product] table that I can change to indicate " I've changed something, make sure you upload these changes" to the web

Actinic will discover the changes and upload them the next time you run 'update website'.

It checks whenever the information is needed, so printing the catalog reports, edit a product, uploading etc.

You can press F5 to force a refresh of external links as well.
