(dot) and (at) in email address!

    Hi
I've looked in the forum but can't see any mention of this problem. It's not major but on the terms and conditions page the email address appears as name(at)company(dot)co(dot)uk
I've tried deleting the email from the business settings page and retyping it by hand in case I'd cut and pasted the address in and it had caused a problem but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks
    david

It is done like this deliberately to stop bots harvesting and using your email address.

Humans can read and correctly build a correct email address. Bots could be programmed to do this too, but the lazy good-for-nothings who do the address harvesting get enough fodder from sites that do nothing to obfuscate the addresses, and are unlikely to make the effort.

I don't use the email setup provided by actinic,
instead, I use some code downloaded off the internet to encrypt the email address.

I keep track of where I use it by having a hidden page and fragment and entering the section location's within that fragment. - If the spam starts coming, I change the encrypted code, and then look in the fragments and made the same changes there.

from then on I simply embed the generated code within a !!< generated code goes here >!!

I'm not saying its spam proof, but like Bill says, if the spammers can't get the address easily and quickly, they move on.

there are other solutions, but its still user friendly (they can click on the link to send the email) but is slightly more unfriendly to the spammers

No doubt, spammers will start to read the code before long, but until then, I do not suffer from spam and this trick seems to work reasonably well

          New in V8?

          Bill,

is this something new in V8 and can it also be implemented into V7?

I'd noticed the (dot) and (@) in my V8 site and thought it was something to slow down the bots - it seems to be working because I've not been receiving much spam in the Dream-Racer site. Although, it's only been up for about 2 months.

On the other hand I get masses of spam on the Opulus Gifts site that drives me spar.

          thanks

one thing to avoid is the obvious address's like sales@... accounts@... info@... and so on,
spammers take the lazy option and send to these types of address's regardless of whether they are published. They know that they will catch a large quantity of "standard address's" so its worth it to them.

take a slightly more obsure online-sales@... and online-accts@... for example.
anything that does come for sales@ - simply throw away.

Yes - in V7 go to View | Business Settings - Terms and Conditions - About Us tab
              then you can replace:
              Email: [EMAIL]
              with:
              Email: name(at)company(dot)co(dot)uk
