    subsection lists make page crazy

I'm doing a redesign and have my product page looking just want I want. But when there are thumbnails as subsection links the list jumps to roughly the vertical middle of the page and they squeeze the right hand sidebar.

The parent section list also squeezes the right hand sidebar, but it does manage to sit at the top.

If my section and subsection lists just sat in the product the page and it looked exactly like the product page then I would be a very happy lady.

    Can anybody help?

    Cheers,
    Meg

Have you added these lists to the OUTERLAYOUT (i.e. the main page code) or have you added them to an INNERLAYOUT?

Only INNERLAYOUT content such as fragments and products appear in the central main product area of the page .

I think they are where they have always been. That is, in the innerlayout. As subsectionlisttop on the standard section page.

Ah - sorry I misunderstood and thought you were adding something.

What setting do you have on Settings | Site Options - Layout tab, Section group, TopSubSectionList layout?

            OK.

Select a page where the problem shows in your content tree. Then change to the design tab, and look in the Layout code box. Find the INNERLAYOUT and double click the purple code to open it.

Within the new code, find Standard Sub Section List, and right click it. Choose edit appearance. This will open a properties box. Look for Use Fixed layout, and click in the white column to the right. This opens the selection dropdown which shows what layouts you have available for the section lists.

If none of those give you the layout you want, can you be more detaled on what you need.

              Hi,
First off, thanks so much for your help.
              I found the innerlayout okay,
I don't seem to have a standard sub section list. I have a "SubSectionListTop" and a "SubSectionListBottom" and the same for parent section lists.

Also, right clicking on these does bring up a menu, but I can't navigate onto it, it flickers and disappears. Is there another way of getting to the edit appearance dialogue?

              Many thanks,
              Megan

I think I've identified one my issues. When I empty the right sidebar box the subsection lists revert to the top. I think this is a table row issue. Putting info into the box is dragging the central information down. But I don't understand why it does this on pages with subsection links, but not on pages with a product. Also of course I am probably wrong.

And that wouldn't solve the issue of width.

It is very difficult to try and work out what is happening without being able to see a problem page.

If you think you may have broken a table somewhere, then you can go to Design, Library - Layout tab. Web Page Outer Layout, select the page layout you are using and right click, then choose compare to factory version. This will highlight all changes and may help find one that might have caused a problem.

You can also do the same with the Web Page Inner Layout selections.

here are two snapshots, can anyone from actinic help me?

                    Hi,
Here are two snapshots of what I mean. As you can see there is plenty of room on the section page but it pushes the right hand sidebar. I have tried using only two columns, but it still does this.

I don't really understand why it would be different from a product page.

If Settings | Site Options - General tab, Width of Main Product Area and Layout tab Width of Section List and Layout tab Width of Product List are all set to the same numerical pixel count ( say 590 ) then the only other suggestion I could make is to reduce the column count on sections to 2.

I have seen this before. I eventually resolved in one of two ways .... firstly I reset the layout that is inserting the table (the layout with the orange text at the top) from the library. The second time I removed the tables and used CSS to float them into the correct position.
