    A few anoying erros on snapshot export

    Hi all,

    I have some problems with my first site update for a customer.

    I seem to have a few errors with files being outside of the Actinic folder, in fact there are random locations all over the place!!

    Any ideas where or what file contains these paths so I can delete them from Actinic? I have searched for 'ExportFiles.cpp' with no luck

    Many thanks
    Paul

    If they are being used within Actinic, then move the files to within the Site1 folder and include them in additional files. If they are not to be used, i would investigate how they have been included.

      Thanks for the reply.

      I think most of the problems come from Dreamweaver, my Site Managment was linking the Protector Systems site to some of my old jobs such as London SugarArt.. so it has tried to include files that are not needed.

      I have since resolved the DW problem but I'm still stuck with these missing files which I do not need.

        Just tried putting the 'protectorsystems.htm' file into the Actinic directory and adding the file manually but the error still comes up;

        (File ExportFiles.cpp, Line 456) - The file C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Desktop\training files\New Design\protectorsystems.htm was not found System error 3 - The system cannot find the path specified.

        If I could gain access to the line location to delete it, would that resolve the problem?

        Thanks

          Ok I think I have found the file.. Act_DesignExport.txt

          Problem is its got loads of junk in it.. its got HTML content from other sites!!!

          edit.. the txt file seems to be the report file so no changes made when I deleted the lines

            I can only summise that somewhere in Actinic these files are being referenced, otherwise how would it know about them. My first line of attack would be where in the Actinic site have i got links to them and go from there. I can't grasp how actinic could have included these without some user interaction, that interaction just needs reversing.

              I have noticed even back in v7 some elements can get transfered between sites, which can be annoying. As of how and why is down to the great Actinic Gremlin that sits on all our machines apparently

                I can see that these errors are not effecting the site but it looks bad to the customer.. plus my own frustion that they are there

                I have deffinatly not used those locations, specially 'Business Relocation' as thats an old done and dusted non Actinic site.

                Are you able to put product images within an Images folder?

                C:\Program Files\Actinic v8\Sites\Protector Systems\product_images

                or do they need to be in the route of the site?

                  I found out yesterday that say for example you have one site that has it's images in an "Images" folder and you import a snapshot from a site that has them within "ProductPictures", that the "Images" folder will prevail and not get deleted. This gives you a site with it's own pictures PLUS the other sites pictures. Not good for maintenance or keeping snapshot sizes down.

                    I have "ProductPictures" within the Site1 folder and every image i use either sits in this folder or a sub-folder of it. Never had a problem with this approach.

                      Thanks for all your help guys..

                      I have given up on this for now.. rather than screw up the site by attempting to redo it from sctratch I have told the customer that it has no effect on the site.

                        Given that it is a number of locations Actinic is reporting the problem is it possible you are using the 'Sites' option in Dreamweaver and this has somehow overwrititen some of the links on some of you Actinic pages?
                        Cheers

                          For what its worth I recreated all the missing file locations on my machine so now I only get this;

                          I have tried putting the files into the Actinic site directory but still it looks for them externaly.

                            Have you tried running a link checker on a live copy of the site to see if there are any funny links anywhere?

                              How could it possibly know to change the references dynamically? Its pointless recreating or duplicating files if you are not going to change the original references to the files, as it will carry on exactly as it was.
