    New order via paypal.

Hi, I am currently using Paypal as a PSP for my web shop customers. However I now also want to be able to take orders over the phone using the "new Order" option. This I can do until I get to the payment stage, I want to be able to enter their credit card details so that they can be procesed via paypal - is this possible for me to do and if so how?

    Thanks Steve

You need a PayPal virtual terminal - checkout paypals website.

      Paypal virtual terminal.

Hi, thanks for the info on Paypals virtual terminal. Does it link in with the actinic software or does it stay stand alone?

In the short term is there anything just placing the orders manually on our website myself?

      Thanks
      Steve.

you will need to link actinic to sage or quick books, then sign up with there credit card provider so it can process credit card details this way, actinic can not do this directly

          Hi, thanks for the info.

Is there a problem with me just placing telephone orders by just going to my website as if I was the actual customer and then placing the order that way?

It would mean all orders would be processed the same way.

          Any comments appreciated.

          Steve

            Is there a problem
Yes - technically you are committing fraud by impersonating your customer.

But if you have a virtual terminal then you could do it that way, a lot of people process orders the way you suggested, Fraud is probably a bit strong as what is the difference in CNP using a virtual terminal, technicaly none

But you should not really place orders this way

                The important difference is

Scenario A, you are connecting to a web site, pretending to be someone else and making a transaction on that website using their personal details.

Scenarion B, you are an honest merchant using a legal tool to process a CardHolder Not Present transaction.

The two scenarios are many. many miles apart.

I agree with Bill 100% on this, imagine if something goes titsup and the repercussions of possible fraud etc.

The only case i can see where you should go onto your site and do this for a customer, is if you have their authority to do so. If you wrote to a customer and said:

Are you happy for me to process the transaction through our website as if i am you, so that your order is retained in our system as all others are for future reference.

If they answer yes to that, then keep the confirmation and proceed. I would be happy to do that personally.

Maybe send them a manual Paypal invoice that they go and pay and then process the transaction etc is another option.

Many thanks to you all for your replies, I understand fully now.

Virtual terminal seems to be the answer for me.

                      Thanks again

                        Bill / Lee

I do not disagree with what you are saying but, mail order software i have used and many here that do means you sit at you pc type all the order in (not on the web), some ar even a browser based system, then you enter the credit card details and funny enough it connects to the internet and authorises the credit card.

It might not totally be a the same as doing it by your website but the technology used is the same and the outcome are the same, it is just this belief that entering a credit card on a system that is not a webiste is different, it is not. the only different solution is direct dial to the card proccessor as by terminals and "some" computer systems.

I do not know much about sage and QB but they offer a credit card auth system which i think you will find is via the internet, i stand to be corrected but heh that is what this forum is for

                        Cheers
