    Populating "may also like" list

Any ideas on how to automatically populate all the products with a "you may also like" list throughout the site? This can be a random list (but different for each product) until time is available to make correct on a product-by-product basis.

From an automatic, system controlled point of view, i can't think of a way this could be done easily, if at all. It would be nice to have one product per section with the right hand column illustrating products (customers also bought kind of thing) that dynamically changed dependant on the product (section) selected. A product specific 'also bought' kind of theme.

With one product per page, related items could be duplicated beneath with a reference to them in the main product, however it would be time consuming if you had a lot of products. The number of products you sell would be the key, if you are into the 100's or even 1000's it could be a nightmare.

If products were into categories, maybe a best sellers list which was fired dependant on the category of the product could be a halfway house. A dynamic right hand column driven by category specific products if that makes sense.

Thats the problem.... existing v7 site has about 2000 products and the new product layout makes important play of the also like / also bought items so populating them all is going to be a pig. There are multiple products per page.

Was hoping some database guru would proffer a solution other than me spending 3 days making it all up

Have you considered using the also bought list (with a modified format) for products that don't have any related products setup? It would mean writing some PHP but should work - and then at least while still not necessarily related, is it more likely to be relevant that a random list.

Cheers Jan - that could be a temporary solution - will have to see how that could be integrated into the existing layout.

It is possible to query the Actinic database using PHP within (say) a product layout. You could do a random lookup within the Products table.

I posted some sample code recently - see http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=28452

I have changed related products name to - you may also like.

then add relevant products to that list.

                example: http://www.32squared.co.uk/acatalog/...asil_Jean.html
