Unable to import items from flat file

    Hi all,

I'm a new user and starting to slowly find my way around Business V8.5. A problem I cannot overcome is with importing from a flat file. I have used the sample file CSV file and added all of the sections and subsections for my shop. These import fine without error but I simply cannot get any product items to import. I have even tried just changing the sample products like the computer packages but these changes are not imported.

I have switched off the auto generate product rerferences and supplied my own in the flat file. I did also try a replace rather than update at the import stage and that deleted all of the example product items leaving just the sections and sub sections. All import fields are ticked (I'm using the default mapping and all 55 fields are mapped)

I have spent a couple of hours reading the forum but could not find an answer to this although I did find the answer to an earlier problem I had of missing lines and that the end column could not be empty!.

    Thanks

    Paul

    Welcome to the forum Paul.
Post a simple sample of your import file - this will help determine what's going on.

Straight off, you cannot call all your products 'Box of Pens' and you cannot use the same image name for all your products, try updating some of those fields correctly and check to see if it then updates correctly. Also make sure to fill the row you have 'Chargers & Power Supplies|NiCd Chargers' on with some information.

        Kind regards,

          Hello Bruce,

Thank you for the reply, I have deleted all but one new item from the list and still it does not generate the new item or update 2 modified 'sample' items. I have attached the revised spreadsheets. No errors are displayed at import.

          Thanks

            Hi Paul,

I see that you now have this with support. It is being looked into and you should get an update once they have sound out what is causing the import to fail.

            Kind regards,

              missing products on import

              I have the same problem.

Also, I've tried a hierachical export of a test site, then imported the data and had the same issue!

The sections and subsections are created - the products are missing in the re-imported file...

I've used the same files on v7 and they import without issue.

                Jason,

I would suggest uploading a sample of the file you are trying to import so we can check. If that is not feasible then raise a support ticket or call in support and a member of the team will be able to assist you with this.

                Kind regards,
                Bruce King

                  Hi,

I did managed to locate the offending field - Thumbnail. This column had been filled with zeros to ensure the MS Excel conversion to CSV worked okay otherwise the import reported lines missing (found that solution on the forum). I have now added a dummy column to the end and filled that with zeros instead and now the import works fine. I was a little surprised to find that the import did not come up with an error message as clearly it did not like a 0 in the Thumbnail cells. Hope that solves your import as well.

                  Regards

                  Paul
