    Missing images - Bug?

Following on from this thread http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?p=155945 . I now have 2 other sites showing the same problem with 8.5.

If I save an image from a website directly into the site1 folder and then use it for a product then it results in a missing image. If the image is resized or given a new file name then all works ok.

Worked ok in all previous versions? - odd

Interesting fault. Could you give some detailed steps (including browser to use, the URL of a page and the image to get from it) that causes the problem.

I've had the same problem with 8.5, I thought it was just me messing up, ended up loading missing images straight to server as it was quicker than arguing with 8.5!
Site is on full 8.5 laoded from demo with V7 snapshot applied.

OK Norm - using ie6 get an image from http://www.mrvikkis.co.uk/acatalog/Mr_Vicki.html and add it directly to a sub folder in stite1. Then use it as a product image.

        I am seeing 2 problems:

        1. As described above ie the image shows as missing in preview and when live.

        2. When browsing for the image using V8 it is not showing in the folder until it is renamed.

I can also see a slightly different icon showing for the new images if they do show in the folder - this leads me to think that 8.5 is not recognising them as jpegs but bitmaps.

Have just carried out a quick test on an Act5 setup, and the problem is the same.
Saving a pic from your site into Site1 - the pic is not recognised by Act as an image file.
Move the file into any other directory (not touched or resized in any other way) - it now recognises it as an image file.
Move it back into site1 - again - now recognises it correctly

Have never experienced this ourselves, as all our images drop into a sub folder within Site1.

          EDIT:

I can't reproduce that a second time, so please disregard the above...
I'd swear it happened the first time! Maybe just Monday morning madness here!!

as do mine. Try saving the image to a sub folder and see if its the same. Odd that just moving the image sorts the problem - I never tried that one!

I have tried this in both IE6, IE7 and FF2, saving to Site1 folder and sub-folder. For me, it worked fine every time. Don't have anything more useful to add though!
              Cheers

looking at the images directly on the site (using properties), images show with a 'jpg' extension.

after you have saved and resized, has this extension changed at all eg to 'jpeg'?

If not, I can't see how 8.5 would be recognising the 2 versions differently.

However, I could have sworn that the first time I saved one of your images, it was exactly as you said - a different icon - and A5 not recognising it as an image at all - but have not managed to repeat same effect.

Have you tried registering a brand new site, and then saving the image to the new site1, and see what happens?

Have you tried this with different web browsers? I notice IE7 doesn't allow you to specify an extension when you save a file from a browser window. Might be worth testing. I'm afraid I don't get this happening at all on my PC. I can save images from the web into my Site1 (using a variety of browsers), select them and upload them without problems.

Im not specifying any extension - just using the save as command. It does the same with a default site as well so I dont know whats going on.

Everything is working just as it did in 8.04 etc

Works fine for me. I right clicked in IE7 and chose Save As. I copied images into both the Site and a sub-folder and they were all OK.

Try using a different browser to save these images.

Well at least I know its not generic so it must be due to individual PC configurations.

We have come across this issue, which looks like it is to do with conducting an upgrade of the site from an older version to the new version, or so it would seem to us anyway.

Images exist in the correct folder under the v8 sites | structure, but will not show under previews or upload, but changing the images and resaving them works fine, which is not ideal when with us it affects a couple of hundred images

                            Hi Malcolm

I'd really like to see whether we can reproduce this. Can you report it to the support team, or else send a snapshot to me via the usual channels?

                              Hi Chris,
If you still have the snapshot from me for the Sanderson Dixon site then you can try that as it has the problem.
