I've just upgraded to actinic business 8.5. In my network settings, i've tried localhost, smtp.websitename.net, and have ran out of ideas on what to use. Does anyone else have any suggestions or use clara as a hosting company. Thanks in advance. :-)

Email confirmation problems with clara host

Assuming your original v7 worked as this is an upgrade. Remove all options for email from the settings in v8 and remove the smtp address totally and then go through and get a working set of network settings without email employed.
Once that works, then re-enable the original email server you had working in v7 and enable the sending of emails etc etc and just refresh the website and see if that works with emails being sent out.

Maria,
What are the error messages you get when you do a test of the network settings in 'Web | Network Setup'? If you post those errors here we may be able to tell you what to do. The best bet would be to pass those error messages to Clara support and see what they can do for you.
Kind regards,Bruce King

Email Confirmation problems with clara host
Hiya
Yes have contacted clara last week, and waiting for them to come back to me. The error messages on the testing of the network settings are;
The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server.
Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
server: passed
connection: passed
sockets: passed
communications: failed
authorisation: failed

Clara Problems
Thanks for your reply. In the Business setting, my domain name and email address are the same as what i have inserted into advanced networking settings. I don't know what you mean by a local standby. I have tried to use localhost, the ip address of the server, and also the server name, which clara supplied my over the phone. I'm still waiting to hear from clara as to a resolution to this problem. I can send you some screen shots of my settings if that is any good.
I've just had an email from clara hosting and it read like this:
We spoke a few days ago regarding your problems configuring relay.clara.net as a smtp server in your Actinic software.
I have been told that the Clarahost platform isn't allowed to relay through itself or relay.clara.net. This has been blocked to stop spammers on Clarahost.
The solution I've been given is to configure sendmail in Actinic by setting the path to /usr/sbin/sendmail.

Sendmail might be your best bet - the answer from clara.net was rather unhelpful as it didn't actually give you any clues on how to fix the problem!
I can't really suggest anything else I'm afraid other than contacting support via http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm and asking them to see if they can get some correct settings working.
