Changing the layout of the executive theme section list

I am using the executive theme for www.chemipool.co.uk. I now want to edit the layout of the section list nav column on the left of the page. What I want to do is change the layout so that I have the top level section names, say as <h2> with the subsections underneath. Then the next section with the subsections etc. I have done something similar with the yahoo section list javascript on the Smart theme on a v7 site. What I want to know is what is the best way to achieve a similar layout here. Do I have to use the javascript mod mentioned in the advanced guide or is there another way of doing this without modifying the code. I have seen it done in other actinic sites so I know it is achievable. I am sure that it is fairly easy to do if you understand the new design structure but I am still getting to grips with it.
Hope someone can give me a few pointers.

    Thanks

    Mark,

You will have to use the workaround in the Advanced Users Guide to get what you need.
