    NETQUOTEVAR:LINK to [LINK]

Upgrading a V7 site to V8, which has 211 (to be exact) instances of "NETQUOTEVAR:LINK" in the product details, feeding from the links tab.

I've exported the catalog and done an edit replace and changed:

    NETQUOTEVAR:LINK to [LINK]

However, in the catalogue after a re-import, it shows as [LINK] instead of the actual link text. Only way it seems to update it correctly is to manually go in and do some pretend editing and then click apply. Suddenly the [LINK] fires into action and does as it should.

Anyone found a way round this ridiculous procedure, i really can't believe that i have to do each one manually.

Why on earth isn't NETQUOTEVAR:LINK changed for [LINK] as part of the upgrade process? Either I have done something wrong (can't see anything) or that is a piss poor failing.

Done the replace in both Excel and Access and still the same. Add a space to the detail or select a checkbox and then uncheck or anything which momentarily amends it and then apply it and the [LINK] updates instantly.

Someone save me lol, can feel the blood boiling ready for an explosion

Have you tried do a replace in Access with some extra text and then doing it again as you want - same as what seems to work manually. Might be worth a go.

        That doesn't work either.

Strangely enough if you try and do global repace on [LINK] in access it takes every instance of each of those letters and replaces with what you tell it to.

[] are SQL braces from memory, it appears to give some kind of setting to the replace facility to change every single instance of each letter within the brackets.

I am so glad i backed up the database 30 seconds earlier, .

Strange - this was a bug I found during beta testing which was fixed ages ago. I wonder why its happening again.

This is the kind of thing that really gets my back up. I accept they cannot create an upgrader which upgrades perfectly with all the custom work that can occur on a site, even more so when there is a drastic version change. But for things like this to fail in 8.5 after all the chuffing bugs we've had so far, it nothing short of pathetic. It's their own functionality for heavens sake, nothing custom about it.

Why on earth do old bugs keep reappearing also, what kind of infrastructure is looking after this software. They make themselves seem so 'tin pot' at times.

I have now reverted to selecting (on each of 211 products) the 'hide on website' checkbox and then deselecting it and then applying the 'dummy' change to get this to work. All this in 2007 on an £1,450 piece of software - absolutely shocking.

              Lee,

I can replicate this with a default v7 site with a product using [LINK]. Importing to v8 then requires a manual edit to get the functionality back. Am running this past development to see what they have to say about it.

              Kind regards,

                Thanks Bruce

I have now finished my trawl and done them all manually, however hopefully this can be fixed or have a solution to help others.

As far as my brain would stretch, i tried every possible thing i could do to force a dummy refresh, but to no avail.

I have another one with not as many to do next week, but it still has over 100, hopefully you guys can come up with something. Both on Multisite 8.5.

                Cheers

This is very odd as its not happening on my sites that I am upgrading

I did have a good look round to confirm that it was not something specific to this site. I couldn't find anything specific. I guess the fact that after you do a pretend amendment and apply it suddenely works, points me to the fact that it is an actinic problem - i may be proved wrong, but i can't see how as it is so easy to fix the problem. It repairs every single time without fail after the dummy change.

                      Lee,

It is an upgrade issue as Actinic is converting the v7 [LINK] to NETQUOTEVAR:LINK correctly, but fails to convert NETQUOTEVAR:LINK to <actinic:variable name="LINK" />.

A global find and replace of NETQUOTEVAR:LINK for <actinic:variable name="LINK" /> will correct the problem instantly.

                      Kind regards,

I have this NETQUOTEVAR:LINK problem on a new v8 site converted from v7. I have search all over but can't find how to do a global search and replace across the whole site in one go.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?

                        Thanks

This is so weird-I posted on this topic yesterday on the upgrading thread as it has happened in all our upgrades and is so time consuming to fix-we have had same issue amd my colleage phoned actinic support and they gave us a fix for it that corrects it completely and very fast

I think the fix was the same one Bruce has posted-we used microsoft access to navigate to products folder in the site folder and then the universal find and replace function.having selected the product description column I think
Anyway it worked (touch wood)and actinic support was great and talked us through it
