Actinic Ecommerce v8.5.1 in beta testing

We are pleased to announce that Actinic v8.5.1 is now in beta testing. This maintenance release of v8 includes integration with PayPal Website Payments Pro and fixes some other known issues in the current production version.

For more details on PayPal Website Payments Pro, see:

NB. This software is of test quality only and should not be used on a live production site. Actinic cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage which may result from such use. We expect that this version will become the full production release after approximately two weeks. If during the testing period any problems are found, a new version will be issued as soon as possible.

Please report any problems with this release to:
    mailto:v851beta@actinic.co.uk?Subject=v851_Beta

    Before upgrading:
Back up your site(s) with a snapshot, and make a safe copy of any external designs you might have registered with Dreamweaver.
    Suspend ordering on your site
Wait for about half an hour and download any orders
    After upgrading:
    Refresh your site
    Re-instate ordering

    Kind Regards,
    Actinic Software

    Thanks for the info...

Just a couple of quickies if I may. Has this version addressed the numerous patch upgrade issues found in 8.5 for stores using v8.04 and v7 backwards (removing the need for a clean install)?

Also, it is vista compatible (marketing functions et al?)

    Regards

      Hi Daren

This version has fixed the remaining issues that have been found with Vista - including the marketing functions.

With regards to the patch upgrade issues, could you be a bit more specific?

        Chris

This looks like it fixes a couple of issues we had so champing at the bit. Have you any idea how long it will remain in Beta?

Usually a product will remain in beta for at least one week, but generally two. It all depends on whether any issues get reported during the testing timeframe.

Any chance of Google Checkout in this version or 8.5.2?

I appreciate the dilligence in updating all the fiddly features, but....

I feel like one of your internal beta testers.

I have an idea for version 9. Make sure it has an auto update facility.

                Hi Chris,

                Could you elaborate on this:

You can now choose where to place your site folders when installing Actinic. You are no longer restricted to having everything within the 'Program Files\Actinic v8' folder
Does this mean you can have it on an external drive? and if so, could i have a copy of actinic on two pcs and use the hdd between the two (for one at home/work situation) and is this allowed as part of a normal license?

                Thanks,
                Paul.

Actinic is a per-site license so you could do this anyway with transferring snapshots between the two applications. I guess now it is just a bit easier.

C'mon Chris, unless you get Google Checkout included in this version don't bother releasing it.

I'm just looking forward to using PayPal Pro. We lose a few customers as our HSBC payment gateway doesn't always accept their payments (some of them give up on HSBC in frustration and go to our PayPal gateway option anyway).

So I hope it will be much better integrating PayPal Pro. Can hardly wait!

I don't know if this is 8.5.1 or earlier but we have found in a product that the Layout and Product tabs can swap around when moving from one product to another.

                            Thanks Alistair

This is a known annoying niggle in v8 - which will be fixed in a future release.
