Searchable Variables

In order to create an alternative product locater I want to use a user definable product variable set to Text and Searchable that we can populate with a locater code i.e. 123, abc, xyz etc.

With the variable created and the products populated with a single locater code the search works fine for a single code.

If I want a product to be searchable for more than one code and populate the variable with say "123 abc" the search will find that product for 123 but not abc. I.e. the search is only matching the beginning.

Can anyone see how to make this work?

Variables are not searchable via the simple search mechanism at the moment. This is on the wish list and I will add another vote for you, I have already added one for Bentleybloke on another post of his.

You can however have a single variable and have unique values declared for it on each product / section, however you cannot enter multiple values to a variable and have it searchable as the search will only consider the initial value as you have found out.

The whole search facility needs an overhaul like the shipping area has had.

Especially:

searching variables (as simple search, and variable with multiple values)
linking directly to full page extended info (as an option)
linking directly to product when there is only one result
add to cart from search results
price schedules available to search results
word count option for full description text
