Catalog section back up and retrieval.

    Hi,

Is it possible to back up or export just a section of your catalog and import it again. Problem we have been having is that after making some changes on one computer they are not being exported via snapshot correctly to another computer. Then we lose the changes because we have to go to the original snapshot. What I would like to do is after making some changes on the one computer, export to a CD or something and take to the main computer to upload. This should work with the snapshot I know but isn't working sometimes and we are losing changes.

Sounds like something is amiss with the database. Is it the same section that is causing the problem? Duplicates? Did you copy and paste the sections?

As well as taking a snapshot may be worth taking a full copy of the site1 folder onto the CD at the same time - this would the give a true copy of the site.

If after compacting the database this still occurs it may be worth contacting support if you have cover as something is not right to lose sections like that.

      .
Be careful if you use the copy of site one over as you may loose any new orders that are on the computer being transfered to if that was the last computer to download orders. whereas with the snapshot you can select not to overwrite orders

Whilst the true solution to your problem is to resolve why you get these data errors...

        an answer to the question

could be to take a hierarchical export and edit out the sections you don't want, leaving just the stuff you do want.
