drop down menu

Hi There,
Have looked in the AUG to try and figure out a way that customers can add an additional item like batteries to the order using a drop down menu.
Unless its me, the manual does`nt appear to be specific enough on how to accomplish this. Can anyone please point me in the right direction.
I managed to do it creating a tick box! but not the drop down.
Is it an attirbute, choice or component, or a mixture of them that I need.

Component, attrib. details need to be added to your product.

I suspect the first choice would be " -- none --"(?)
