So as not to get confused here, I deleted my other similar thread, however, in IE and FF I get this:

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /cgi-bin/ca900001.pl could not be found on this server

It's not cookies as FF worked fine - Donald said about re-install and short of any other answers I reckon there isn't much choice but to do this

      Oh god!!

Not a major issue kev - just make sure every thing backed up...

If you do a fresh installation, I suggest that you suspend ordering on the active site, wait a while and do a 'download' of any orders...

        -------

I downloaded a fresh copy 8.5.0 from Actinic just in case of any possible corruption of my original file. It went very smooth...

I wonder if yiour server is caching and dishing up a corrupt file in some way that is not being replaced when you 'update' the site - can you get into the server (outside Actinic) and purge of any old files?..

        Good luck...

Its unlikely to be geerated by Actinic - ftp to the server and delete all the files then do a refresh.

Googling the error says Apache's mod_security is the culprit. Do you do your own hosting? If not, it might be worth contacting your hosting provider to see if they've made any changes to the web server configuration recently typically relating to mod_security

After experimenting for a few minutes, if the requested CGI-BIN URL contains "PAGE=http" then it will give you the error.. I'm pretty sure it's down to mod_security

              e.g.
              http://www.doorentryonline.co.uk/cgi...1.pl?PAGE=http
              http://www.doorentryonline.co.uk/cgi...1.pl?PAGE=http

It's more than likely a generic regexp in the mod_security rules to prevent scripts including content from foreign locations

                thanks everyone on this

Mark, can I edit this in anyway or just do a re-install?,

you do have a point though as on Saturday morning all was fine in FFox, orders, payments etc, the lot no problem, then I deleted an old website from my server (not hosted by me) and accidently deleted the cgi-bin as well!!

oops!, anyway, I got the host company to re-install my cgi-bin, then I uploaded my test site to LIVE!

That's when I found the problem of the check out button no longer working or should I say not pulling the .pl file

I changed the permission on the cgi-bin to 755, 777, 757 and nothing would help

This is wood for the trees and as Ruralweb had said "I don't think this is an Actinic fault"

I am feeling it isn't either now.........:-(

I'll work on this one for a bit

My suggestion is to revert Actinic to a payment method such as credit cards sent separately, and take actinic out of SSL on the payment and security tab..

When I looked at the site the URLs sseemed to be getting confused, but I noticed you are using a shared SSL.

As jo says - get the site back to basics or even upload the default Actinic site and get that working then add things back one at a time.

I still suggest you wipe the server.

                      and do this

and make sure you have a cgi-bin with 755 permissions

We had this problem last November when 1and1 upgraded the firewall settings to our dedicated server (and everyone elses!) without telling us, after numerous phone calls and denial after denial from 1and1, they finally admitted that they had made changes to the firewalls that blocked writing to the cgi bin!
Result, several thousand of pounds of lost sales and we moved server to Dedipower.

This is becoming very common - I have had 2 sites with the same problem recently.

Makes me pleased with our decision to host on the Actinic Server - If they get it wrong......

There are plently of non Actinic webhosts who are very capable of hosting Actinic sites, trouble is there's also a load of hosts out there that people decide to use without finding out if they are capable of supporting Actinic.

thank you Jo and Malcolm, Mark, Donald and everyone who has given their kind advise

I will upload the basic site and use Actinic as a payment etc just to see what happens

I will of course let you all know the outcome of this

A deffo server side fault here, and they haven't told me either that they have messed it up for me

                                arrgghh!
