Digital Downloads and shipping/handling costs to non VAT countries

    Hello

I’m in the process of evaluating Catalog version 8.5 (already using v6 and v7), and I’d be most grateful if anyone could offer some advice on the following please.

I have a product page offering a combination of physical products and digital downloads (a feature I've not used before). Delivery is free free to VAT paying EU countries, but charged to non-VAT paying countries.

I’m using shipping costs based on product weights for the physical products. It’s not the most elegant solution, but does allow us to charge the same for all customers Worldwide, for example:

    EU Customer pays - £57.45 product + £10.05 VAT + £0 P&P = £67.50
    Non-EU Customer pays - £57.45 product + £0 VAT + £10.05 P&P = £67.50

I’m having trouble doing the same with digital download products, and despite giving the product a weight, shipping costs are not being applied to these products, so from the example above, the Non-EU customer could get the product for £10.05 less.

I’d prefer a better solution to charging a ‘shipping cost’ for a downloadable product, and have been trying to add a ‘handling supplement’ instead – unfortunately this is being applied to both EU and NON-EU countries (taking the price over what it should be for EU countries).

The only solution I can see so far is to set the DD products to have a zero rated or exempt tax rate. I’d prefer not to do this if possible, and was wondering if anyone could be so kind as to offer a possible solution please?

    Kind Regards

    Ash

For any plonkers like me who completely missed this option !!

Please go to 'Settings | Business Settings | Ordering' and at the bottom remove the tick from the box 'Exempt Digital Download Products from Shipping' and click 'OK'.

Many thanks to Actinic support for the solution.
