    Newbie Qiestion: How to completely wipe a site and start again?

    Hello All,

    I have recently started using Actinic Designer.

    I had my site working fine at a test location, while I waited for my area with a dedicated IP address to be set up.

    However since I attempted to upload it to this new area I am getting all sorts of errors, it tells me I have pages that don't have unique names, it doesn't like if I include my own images on the page using "src", my brochure page is a mess, missing css and images and now it just won't upload the site anymore.
    It goes through the whole process of uploading and tells me it is complete, but when I go to view the site it hasn't changed at all.

    I'm guessing I've done something stupid somewhere and was just wondering how I would go about starting from scratch.

    Should I just delete all the files manually and then see if it uploads or is there a way of doing it through actinic?

    What kind of errors?

    The scrap and start option may be a little OTT if they are common errors?

    Could be just a case of a file ref, field error?

    If you could post a couple we may be able to help...

      On error I have recieved.


      Some filenames conflict. All files being sent to the web site must have unique names. Please
      check the list of files in Design | Additional Files.

      Some of the following files must be renamed before an upload can occur. Once the files are renamed, reselect them in the Actinic.

      E:\Program Files\Actinic v8\Sites\Site1\laptop.jpg
      E:\Program Files\Actinic v8\Sites\Design_site\laptop.jpg

      (Site1 is my Business Client Site
      Design_Site is my Design Site.) How are they conflicting?

      I will post more errors tomorrow.

      Any ideas would be welcome as I am new at this, or even a particular section of the help guide would be great.

        Ahh the old image file error message.

        Pain in the butt I know, but on the same machine this will always happen, rename one of them and you should be fine.

        Any actinic devs wish to clarify why this happens?

          In truth they aren't, the problem is the 'laptop.jpg' part.
          Actinic uploads all of it's files to the same directory, therefore if you reference the same file (or a file with the same name) within the software, it will give you an error as if it was to continue the upload of the second file will overwrite the first.
          The file may not even exist and if you were to remove one of the files, it would make no difference because the path will still exist in one of Actinic's image fields somewhere.
          The only real cure is to go through each section and product and see where it is referenced, and change one of the references (unless you have MS Access and can do it in the database).

          As well as this, there was a bug something like this in earlier v8s that did this spuriously, so if it is not a later version, you may want to upgrade.

            Well I seem to have resolved the conflicting jpg problem, so thanks for all the help on that.

            My other problem of the site not uploading at all, well I discovered it is uploading - into the cgi-bin folder!

            I think I may have had this problem before, so it's just a matter of remembering what I did to fix it.

              What are your network settings?

                Sounds like an error in the network settings.
                Check that you have'nt got the cgi-bin URL path in the acatlog URL path setting. that's what it sounds like to me.

                  this is the same error as I have reported in 8.5.1, Claire has 2 different sites here so she should not get this error.

                  Don't forget if you have 6 sites on a machine, there is every chance that at least two will have home.gif or checkout.gif for example.

                  This is different to referenciing 2 images files within the same site from 2 differerent locations - although I don't know how

                    Ok. and I am aware of how complicated this will look but it is frustrating because I had succesfully uploaded it onto this webspace before.

                            Hello, I've been away for a week,

                            Right now I am having a look at my own domain settings, as I think they could be causing the problems and not so much Actinic itself.

                            I will hopefully be able to post an update soon.

                              Good news,

                              I have successfully uploaded the site without it ending up in the cgi-bin folder.

                              I believe my
                              Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as Viewed by the FTP Server
                              was wrong.

                              Thanks everyone for all the help.
