Putting 'fractions' in a Product description

Many woodworking tool sizes are expressed as a fraction of an inch and are traditionaly known as such. Therefore we want to use fractions in the Product Description such as:
Sorby Oval Skew Chisel 1/2" x 16 1/4"
Sorby Oval Skew Chisel 1 1/4" x 18 1/4"
Sorby Ring Cutter 5/16"

Using the above method of representing whole units and fractions together is somewhat ugly - I would, ideally, like to have the fraction as a single character - Is there any way of doing that?

(expressing the fraction as a decimal is a no-no)

I had thought of making and inserting tiny graphics but guess that would not render in the cart or other paperwork...

The other idea I tried was to highight the whole number increase the font size by one and reduce the font size of the fraction - that works BUT is a pia when there are loads to do!

Have you tried using the ASCII equivalent between !!< .. >!! in the product description?

If there are loads to do set them us as a User Defined Variable and introduce them via Normans [LINK] trick

That is exactly how we get round them (top bit not norms trick)

Use !!<&#38;frac14;>!! for ¼ and !!<&#38;frac12;>!! for ½ and !!<&#38;frac34;>!! for ¾.

Note that HTML representations will probably not pass properly to the customer email or Order. Best not use them in the Product Name. They're fine in the Product Description as this text is only shown on the product pages.

I was rather hoping for some hidden, magic wand that once waived, would do the trick...

It is the hidden problem potential poor rendering/reproduction/representation in customer emails etc that has detered me from using my tried efforts.

Because it is essential to show fractions in the Product Description, it looks like I'm stuck with the ugly method - the advantage is that it is quick...
