and I bet Jo ran a mile at the thought of it too
Actually Miranda's upgrade has restored a little of my faith. (Although I still have 2 sites that still have major issues - both are back at Actinic Towers)

I chose 8.5.1 as I wanted to get past the 8.0's for both the better DW integration, new shipping modules. I had been using 8.5.1 all week

And of course I've done all of Miranda's previous upgrades from v4 so i was pretty certain not to find any nasty customisations. But I'm not saying i didn't unearth a few bugs or annoyances in the process.

It is reassuring for the rest of us when an already established, busy 'site gets upgraded without any problems. When you look at the v8 section, have a look at all the thread titles (snapshot problems, freezing, etc) , so its good to have a `happy one` now and again.

We chose the w/end as it meant we could leave orders on the server over the w/end, meaning all that had to be upgraded were the design layouts and database - we didn't have to patch products, stock control or orders back in.

The thought of that makes me very

I can imagine all sorts of duplicate order horrors if I couldn't update stock levels after each order came in

What was Miranda on before the upgrade? V7.? or V8 already?
            Just out of interest

if you don't download orders, stock control remains intact. Although in your case I think most products are one only aren't they?

So you wouldn't benefit from this method, as you need to constantly being downloading and uploading stock levels. You'd have to use the trusted manual system and allow your v7 site to carry on regardless and upgrade stock yourself.

You'd have to upgrade the site - this could take several days if you chose it. Then at the point of changeover, download orders, suspend ordering. Upgrade database from 7 to 8 (you've already done this so you knowit will be ok), export hierarcichal data from new DB into upgraded design, import orders from new DB to upgraded design, upload live. NICE...

We just did the 7 to 8. without redesign - just jigged the new layouts to match the current design. It now means we can redesign and do 8 to 8. Hopefully Actinic will have a better working design snapshot by then, so we can plonk a design snapshot onto a v8 site, and not have to worry about products, stock control, orders.
