    Can’t create new sites in Multi-Site v8.5.1

I cant seem to create any new sites with multi-site, I always get errors. I can switch between my existing ones, but new ones are taboo.

Here is a list of the errors in the order they appear.

    - An unexpected error occurred while trying to carry out the import. Please check your settings and try again.

    - An unexpected error occurred while trying to carry out the import. Please check your settings and try again.

    - A severe error occurred. The thread attempted to read for a virtual address (0x1c) for which it does not have the appropriate access. Actinic will attempt to recover. It may be safest to restart Actinic.

    - A severe error occurred while Catalog was changing sites. It is strongly recommended that you exit Catalog immediately and restart.

Then Actinic just hangs. So I force it to close and restart Actinic.

When restarting the following appears in the upgrading design dialog box.

    - Preparing import
    - Importing all records into Actinic
    - (error message) An unexpected error occurred while trying to carry out the import. Please check your settings and try again.
    - Import abnormally terminated

Then I press ok and the site loads fine.

But something really fishy is going on here, I don’t want to start a new site and have it filled with some unforeseen problems.

As you can obviously open the Actinic program, have you tried compacting the databases?

If not, Housekeeping - Compact Databases. This may well clear the problems!

Yes this worked, thanks so much.

From now on when anything starts acting funky I will try this.

What exactley happens when you compact the database?

It's like a spring clean in simple terms, gives it a good vac and polish.

.. and sprinkles a layer of happiness far and wide.

If anything plays up or behaves differently this is always the first port of call.. it solves a multitude of sins.

we ought to have a few predefined replies to call on...

            1 compact database
            2 refresh the website
3 search the community for this very common error

Good idea, we could have a sticky with these far too common answers and just point the poster to that thread. I'm not sure how we can convince people that a search will solve 90% of their problems - it's a toughy.
