    Urgent Problem Uploading Site

We thought we had sorted our problem loading the site to the new server but we're getting more error messages when we try and upload now; "the ftp connection has been abnormally terminated"

Now when I test the network settings it says we dont have permissions setup correctly for the CGI BIN or it doesnt exist. But it is there where it should be, CMOD was 755 I tried changing it to 777 but it makes no difference.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Our site has been down for days now and we're getting desperate. Anyone know anything we could try?

Probably to do with the cgibin but if you try and buy anything on the site now, if you try and checkout it just says your cart is empty...

    Hi Jonny

Who is your host and what are your network settings?

First port of call, compact the database and try again...

If you can post the above it will assist, (**** YOUR U/N AND P/W)

Have been here mate so know what you are thinking!!

      What's your site url
      Has it ever worked before?
DONT Cmod cgi to 777 as it displays even more errors, it should be 755
Does it work in test mode?
what exact errors are you getting?

Things I have done is wipe my host server clean and re-upload the entire lot
Can you export your network settings and paste them here so people can have a look at it?

You also mention your site has been "down for days" does this mean it did work?

who is your host and have they done anything at all that could affect this?

OK thanks - have tried compacting- makes no difference.

Host is Pinbrook - we've just moved from Fasthosts.

        Network settings are:

        HTTPPROXYMODE 0
        HTTPPROXYADDRESS
        HTTPPROXYPORT 80
        HTTPPROXYUSER
        HTTPPROXYPASSWORD
        FTPPROXYMODE 0
        FTPPROXYADDRESS
        FTPPROXYPORT 21
        FTPPROXYUSER
        FTPPROXYPASSWORD
        SCRIPTID 1
        SCRIPTEXT .pl

        FTPRETRYDELAY 6000
        FTPSILENT true
        FTPMAXRETRIES 6
        FTPCONNECTTIMEOUT 50000
        SMTPAUTHREQUIRED false
        SMTPUSERNAME
        SMTPPASSWORD
        CATALOGURL http://www.yopo.co.uk/acatalog/
        CGIBINURL http://www.yopo.co.uk/cgi-bin/
        PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ../acatalog/
        CODEBASE ./
        FTPHOST yopo.co.uk
        FTPUSERNAME ***
        FTPPASSWORD ***
        PATHTOCGIBIN /yopo.co.uk/cgi-bin/
        USEPASSIVEFTP true
        FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG /yopo.co.uk/acatalog/

Thing is - that these haven't changed - it's just suddenly decided it can't see or write to the cgi-bin

        Thanks, Jonny

Your settings are exactly like those given on the Piinbrook info pages so they should (and as you say did work). It points to permissions and if they are correct (cgi-bin and acatalog at 755) as viewed by your ftp client then I suspect the host end.

            Thanks Kev,

We have had problems from the start. First our digi downloads would not load - get getting an FTP error message - abnormal connection etc. Pinbrook did actually wipe the disk and we started again.

Still didnt work. I worked out that it was some very long file names that were causing the problem - +96 characters. So have been busy shortening all the file names.
Yesterday it was loading fine with the new shorter file names.

Left it over night to try and get a big chunk of the DD files up but it failed quite quickly - FTP session ended abnormally or something.

Now when I test the Network settings it says it cant find the cgi-bin or doesn't have write permissions. CGI BIN is cmod 755.

            And that's where I am....

You could also try deleting the cgi-bin, recreating it, setting the permissions again and re-running the network test.

                Jonny

Like me, you haven't changed a thing, I had the same problem with cgi errors

this was down to my host "migrating" (whatever that means) and DIDN'T tell me, as I said earlier, I spent 3 weeks re-uploading, re-installing, you name it I done it only to badger and badger the host to own up!

They did in the end, they had an error script fault, took them 5 minutes but cost me 3 weeks!!!

This without doubt sounds like a host error here especially when you just said you have changed

Can you confirm since changing host that this error has occured, if so get onto the host NOW and don't take no c*** from them

                Kev

As in there's an issue on the server? Not much I can do then - not sure if they have support there at weekends - anyone know. I have emailed them last night and this morning.

OK happy to try that - excuse my ignorance here but the contents I have there at the moment do I need to copy that off first - or is this recreated by Actinic when you load the site?

Hope it isn't 3 weeks Kev. I might as well go out for a very long walk to consider a new career!

Does anyone know if Pinbrook have support running in any shape or form at the weekend?

Actinic will upload the cgi-bin files again - but check your email from me first.

[EDIT] - sorry - didn't think - nothing secret Kev -I just tested Jonny's settings from my end and the only error was an smtp one, no cgi script write errors.

I'll try not confuse anyone here as Duncan is more expert than I will ever be, but by god have I had troubles and nothing is V8.5 Actinic fault at all, it won't be 3 weeks for you Jonny as mine was a script error when you pressed CHECKOUT - simply it didn't pull the file from the cgi-bin even though it was there

I'm gonna go to your site and see what happens and then post the errors here

                        I'm convinced it's a host error

                          ps

Actinic doesn't like certain characters like -, @ etc although I can't think where I know this from, I think it's in the user manual

                            This is strange...

I just gone to your site and got to the checkout page for a music download called "world music"

Well I tested network settings - this time it passed - nothing's changed - tried to upload and gets to the first DD file - and we get "connection with the server was terminated abnormally"

Retry - fail. Permissions issue on acatalog, low disk space etc Actinic cannot work with these settings. Usual crap. Now network settings fails again....This is hopeless.

The phrase flogging a dead horse comes to mind. There's a limit to how long we can handle our site being down like this.

Anyone care to make a suggestion for a host please! We need 8-10 gig of space and 20-30gig transfer a month.
