Kev are you talking about characters in the DD filename?

Ours have a lot of _ underscores, don't think there are any dashes "-" I can check but would that really cause these problems?

Thanks for your help both of you.

      try this:

Go the main Actinic webiste and choose the free trial hosting for 30days, follow the obvious instructions etc, etc

upload your site to the free trial Actinic server (you can actually do it today as you get emailed passwords etc straight away)

try their server hosting and see what happens, now if it don't work then you have a prob with either file names or whatever, but lets take one step at a time here

do the above first, this will tell you whether your "site" has problem or your "host" IS the problem if you get my drift

24hrs before my host sorted my gaff out did I re-register a new domain name and server!! (how to spend money when it aint my fault springs to mind here)

but give Actinic a try (it cost £250 pa though for the real hosting!)

I am now with 123 reg/webfusion and have no more grief thank god........

ps, perhaps out of term here but I have never heard of your host, perhaps they are a small company and offer cheap hosting

never go with cheapos, they aint worth the trouble and give little support especially at weekends when most of us need it

And yes, I have been there too so I know how you feel

What did you do to get the network test to pass?

Absolutely nothing - that's what is so strange.

I'll try and organise the test site this afternoon if I can. I'm supposed to be finishing a new album that was to coincide with the new site/new server etc.

I still have my space at Fasthosts - do you think I should change the name servers back now so at least I can get something back up for Monday....?

I take your point about not going with the cheapies - but this wasn't cheap! Fashosts WAS cheap - yes we have had problems - mainly with them moving the site to different servers as ours was quite big (approx 5 gig) but at least you could get support at the weekend.

I understand Pinbrook want to do email support only and it's usually a better way to do things but I stupidly didnt realise that once they have your money it's virtually impossible to speak to someone. I don't know where we stand on getting our money back and that's not the damaging issue - we just need our site to be hosted so the punters can start downloading the music again.

I'm really not sure what to do now.

I'm off for one of those herbal calming teas - or a beer!

Right I've heard back from Pinbrook Support - not sure who it is, but their comment is they believe this is an Actinic issue.

I don't know where that ranks in the chart of "most unhelpful comments" ever but I have a good idea.

No ideas to try, can I check your settings, we'll test the server - nothing.

              Astonishing.

If the network settings pass, I would suggest refreshing the site. That should sort out the checkout too for you.

                Kind regards,

That's the point the Network settings test doesnt pass. It passed once a few hours ago then failed the upload. Now it fails. If I try and refresh the website I get this:

An error occurred while transferring files to the web site.

                  Possible Cause:
                  Network timed out
                  Network is down
                  FTP server is down
                  Remote server disk is full
The permissions on the file or directory on the remote
                  server are locked
If the file being sent is a CGI script
(nqxxxxxx.pl or caxxxxxx.pl) someone else may be
using the same CGI script ID as you.
                  Recommendations:
                  Abort
                  Resolution:
                  Re-establish your network connection
Be sure the FTP server is running
Try re-installing the web site when the network is not so busy
Make sure the disk is not full on the remote server
Make sure the website and cgi-bin directories
on the remote server are writable
Make sure the files in the cgi-bin and website are writable
Make sure your CGI script ID in the Advanced |
Network Setup... dialog is unique for your web server.

                  File: bb000001.pl

I suggest you follow other persons idea and prove your site by using the actinic test site and settings, at least then for a hours work in setting up and uploading you will either prove or disprove you side of the site

If it works ok then you know its either your settings with the new isp or their servers, either way you have solved most of the problem (i.e. break the problem into little chunks)

PS save your settings before you transfer so you can quickly come back

Thanks - I tried to do the Actinic Free Hosting but when I click convert in network settings and enter the username and password they sent me I get this message:

                          Error sending version negotiation request

The file http etc (the url they emailed) does not contain any valid field. Check the import file layout.

Anyone tried this free hosting recently - or am I missing something.

You could get some space with webfusion within the hour and get your site running. They have a 30 day money back offer so you can get your cash back once its all sorted.
