flat-rate shipping charge .. but free downloads

I would like to set up section of downloads, most .. if not all .. will be free of charge - service manuals, instruction sheets and the like as PDFs or whatever. Setting them up as a product with an add to basket seems the neatest method (first time I have used digital download part of Actinic).

However, for the actual products there is a fixed shipping charge, regardless of size of order.

using a simple £xxx shipping on everything ends up with a £xxx charge on the digital download too .. I obviously have to use a more complex method.

Can anyone show me a really simple 'do this and it'll work' way.

as always .. thanks in advance.

Use shipping by weight - set the downloads to a weight that calculates £0 and the other products to a weight that calculates the shipping cost you want to charge. There is a more detailed guide on the forum if you do a search.

      thanks ...

thank you .. I had a feeling that was the direction of travel.

If anyone at Actinic happens across this posting, maybe I could add to the 'wish-list' for v.9 something to do with a tick box on a product which was something along the lines of 'exempt this product from shipping charges'

Another option is to use 'Category' based shipping and create one shippning category called 'standard' and another one called 'download'. You can set the standard one to have a fixed charge, and the download one to be free shipping. Then you just need to set the 'shipping category' of each product to set whether something is a download item or not.
