    Acatalog page gone missing!!

    Hi,

I feel as though it just might be a Bank holiday weekend. Imagine the scene, everyone beetles off for the weekend and all your websites fall apart!

Can someone take a look at www.turnerrichards.co.uk and tell me why, when going to the acatalog page there is nothing there. On my local machine, everything is in place when previewing, but on the net, nothing. I just can't see the wood for trees at the moment. Too many problems!
    (Hope Tracey's about!!)

    Regards,
    David

    woops!

First thingto spring to mind is to check the layouts and where they are assigned. Its the section layouts, have you got anything set to "No Layout"?

I did the reverse to this once where I had 2 layouts displaying.

      Hi Jo,

Sorry, but it's not that, unfortunately! I just cannot understand how it can appear in preview and not be uploaded. But that's computing sometimes!!

      Thanks for the attempt anyway.

      Regards,
      David

        That is well weird.

Your template is sitting on your webspace, not the page. The source is full of actinic crap which should all be stripped out.

I'd delete the page off your server and do a refresh of your site, see what happens.

          Hi Lee,

Thanks, but I've tried that. Compact database - purge website and refresh. Nothing seems to shift it. It's obviously picking up the template from Dreamweaver, I suppose!! As you say, weird!! Anyway, not wanting to be feint hearted. just cleared it off the server again and did another upload. Now getting a 404 Not found!

          Any other thoughts welcome.

          Regards,
          David

I'd select the outer layout(at the top of design tree) in the design tab and then select to edit layout in dreamweaver, put something in and then take it out and send the template back to actinic and see what happens.

There appears to be a communication error of some kind and you need to try and force it to refresh this to reinstate it. If you are doing a 'refresh' and not an 'update', i'm at a loss really to be honest wtf is going on. I would just be trying anything i could think of and seeing if it did anything.

One thing you definitely want to do is check the page name for the shop top and possibly change it to shop.html and try an upload, this may be enough to do it. I suspect something has gone titsup in this area.

              Hi Lee,

You must be a genius!! Tried shop_top.html and it has now reappeared!
Thanks very much for your help.

LOL brute force approach always works with Actinic. If you have any great search engine rankings for the previous page name or any incoming links, you may wish to reinstate the old page name now.

Oh bugger! Just renamed the index back and lost the lot again.

If I use the index.html page, it loses all the section heads. If I re-name it, it appears, but repeats all the section head links. (Duplicates them on the same page)

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Just gets more weird as the day goes on!!

Can you send me a bloody big hammer?

                  Regards,
                  David

Yeah that was a crap idea to change it back, i like the new name, put it back to shop top....lol.

Send support a snapshot and ask them to figure it out.

May be worth breaking the link to the outer layout .. in the design tab navigate to the outerlayout .. click on "edit layout details" and then in the layout name remove the path to leave just the outerlayout.html.

Also check you do not have a copy in the additional files list.

I had a similar issue on a site and the above resolved. On another making the outerlayout.html path relative would not hold so I went into the database and removed the absolute path.

Ensure the layout for the shop page is set to parent.

Check to see if you have a spurious "index.html" in your Site folder. This may be confusing Actinic.

                          Thanks for your contributions.

Jont - It is set to parent, but since your post, I appear to have lost other information on upload.

Norman - checked and no spurious index.html, unfortunately.

All the sections and sub-sections have now lost focus entirely. Quite a serious matter to lose a very active site over a Bank Holiday weekend! The prospect of trying to rebuild a large site as quickly as possible seems a bit daunting to say the least!

At a total loss now, except to keep trying various ploys!

                          Regards,

Ive seen something similar to this where a section vanished on upload. The solution was to rename the section and it worked but that will not work for you as you need to keep your rankings. The other thing that fixed it was to import the snapshot into another PC and upload then take a snapshot and transfer it back - worth a try?

                              Hi Malcolm,

I've tried an import onto another machine, but there are still some anomalies with missing information. Every time I try something different I seem to lose more information.

I've re-imported an older snapshot onto my laptop and just uploaded it again, umpteenth time today. The site now appears to have two different themes. The first two sections, blanks and pistols and books are showing a theme I've never used. The remainder appears to be reasonably OK now with the exception of the index.html. Back to square one.

I'm now going to rename the index again!!
