    Having a filling system in place

    Hi, whenever I design a website I always like to work to a filing system where each type of file is stored in its own folder. e.g - a folder called css,html,images,php etc etc rather than have 200 random files in one folder.

    Is their any way to organise actinic sites to work like this and call in the files externally; example rather than it be:

    <img scr="myimage.jpg"/>

    in same folder as file ^^

    <img scr="../images/myimage.jpg"/>

    outsite one folder and in another folder called images ^^

    I do this with normal sites using dreamweaver which automatically updates links so if I move a file dreamweaver will notice and change any links that use that file.

    Also it allows you to have alot more control over updating and such knowing where everything is.

    You can have as many sub folders of your site1 folder as you like, the important thing to remember is that once they get uploaded they all end up in the same place. So the software where you actually do your work can be as tidy as you want it to be.

    This has been raised many times before and i don't see it changing in the near future. If you remember that even if you put a file in a sub folder it must have a unique name to anything else on the site, you will never get any trouble.

    Dreamweaver is a specific package for web design, so it makes things easier to build as it is solely focused on this purpose. Actinic currently has to do many many things of which it's file handling is not as good as a specific piece of software for this purpose.

      You can make subfolders in each Site1 folder but Actinic will bundle everything into acatalog on the server.

        Thats a fair point, quick question.. The css and html file that is running from DW is in a different place on the hard drive. Should that be in the site folder? and the images that go with it. (like my header banner jpg etc) should they all be in the same folder as the site? and where is the site folder for that matter?

          There is one simple answer. Every single thing to do with a site, should be stored either within the site1 folder or a sub-folder of the site1 folder. No exceptions = no problems.

              No idea Dan, i keep mine the way it has always been as i've never had a problem in this area. The my docs reference is to do with 8.5.1 and vista compliance i believe. However, you have selected to do this at some stage on the install from what i can gather.

                  Correct yes. I have a permanent shortcut in my mydocs and on my desktop to the actinic site folder for easy location - jobs a good un.
