    How Many Site 1 Folders

    Can someone explain why I have 2 Actinic V 8 Folders.

    I have had a support query open for well over a week now, support and development have been asking me to view my ActinicConstants.pm file within the path
    C:\Program Files\Actinic V8\sites\site1 and change the relevant section they have supplied me with.

    Unfortunately when opening the said file I have not been able to find the lines they have been directing me to, e-mails have been sent backwards & forwards plus a site snapshot. They say it was there and I said it wasn't etc.

    Today I have reading a post on the forum which mentioned saving images in the My Documents\Actinic 8 folder etc. When looking at the relevant file in this folder - yes I can see what they are asking me to look at!

    I know I don't have alot of knowledge (very Little) but I can follow a file path, when the right path is indicated in the first place.

    So what I need to know is why have I two Site 1 files, and do I completely disregard the C:\Program Files ..........Site 1 and just use the File Path My Documents..........Site 1.

    I am so annoyed support have failed to mention this I havn't even tried the fix yet!!!

    This is due to a change in architecture on 8.5.1, where the software loads to program files and the sites CAN be located in My Docs. I believe it is to address a Vista issue. Anyway as part of the install you will have been given the option on what to do and you agreed to install them separately.

    I've just had a client send me a snapshot with the same setup as you and the images fail miserably. Unless you are on Vista keep it all as it was IMO, in program files. I'm not sure how the hell to get around this client has in different place to designer problem yet.

      Norman posted the registry fix to allow you to put stuff back together after 8.5.1 kindly moves it around for you.

        Not when I upgraded - another bolocks up on 8.5.1 as far as I am concerned.

        It should default to the normal ie what we are all used to not a setup for vista which most people dont have. All its done is create more problems than it solved.

          You're right it's not an option on upgrade, i decided to find out WTF was going on after clients snapshot was totally useless. I downloaded the trial version on a clean never seen actinic laptop.

          The option to change this is on a new install only it would appear. What it does mean is that if a client starts a site with this setup and then sends us a snapshot, that every image will fail and you get bombarded with error messages. Basically the snapshot is unworkable and totally useless.

          Luckily my guy had only setup 3 products, he is now uninstalling and reverting to my standard method so i can at least take a look at it. Image references are full C: addresses, which always of course contain Site1 and exist in a folder that doesn't exist on our PC's, so designer is stuffed it would appear on anything but a site they have created, if this new split method is used.

            Thanks Lee

            But why should the ActinicConstants.pm be different in each folder?

            They also told me to change

            1. Open 'Session.pm' in a notepad which is within ' C:\Program Files\Actinic v8\Sites\Site1'.
            2. Search for 'sub GetSessionFileName' you will see...

            sub GetSessionFileName
            {
            my $Self = shift;
            my $sID = shift;
            my $sPath = $Self->GetSessionFileFolder();
            return ($sPath . $sID . '.session');
            }

            Insert after this ...

            sub DESTROY
            {
            my $Self = shift;
            $Self->{_LOCKER}->Unlock()
            }

            3.Save and exit
            4. Update the site
            Back on the 18th May, would you suggest changing this in the My Documents\.........site 1 path as well? This is still to sort out the sessioninit error which I posted baout nearly two weeks ago.

              Why not rename one of the Site1 folders temporarily to see which is being used - with Actinic closed of course.

                  I wonder just how many man hours have been wasted because of the relocation of the site1 folder...?

                    Many George, and unless there is an answer to what i raised, i can see web designers needing to have 2 PCs with both setups to be able to help clients. Yet another sting in the tail and nail in the coffin for the web designer.

                        So where does the latest version store the images of an imported site, say from v7? I assume it would store them in the `new location` by default and upgrade the image paths (from the regular prog files/actinic/v7/site1 blah blah to the new my docs etc etc)?

                              My upgraded V7 site automatically saved in my My Documents (with a huge filepath of NOT CATALOG etc for those that were still outside the site1 folder in V7)

                              I had no image problems at all with my upgrade form V7.0.7 to V8.5.1
                              They all imported with the snapshot and worked fine
