but I would think it would be a handy thing to merge order data in the way I outlined ... I doubt it'll be the last time me and my laptop potter away from the office and still need to access and download orders

theres no problem with downloading on the laptop if you are pottering, just make sure you take ALL the orders from the PC to the laptop before you start, then the laptop will be downloading and appending to the order DB. Then when you return you can copy ALL orders back to PC.

is that any quicker than exporting/importing a snapshot?
Not that it matter to me because with the download of orders I need to upload new stock levels myself so I need a full snapshot to be taken from one to the other anyway.

On the odd occasion I have had orders on a different computer (and it's never been a high quantity of orders) I've been known to place them on the main installation as offline orders and then amend the order numbers in the database to match those placed on site.
