Linking products together for stock purposes

Hi Guys, I sell a satellite receiver on its own and also as part of a kit. Is it possible to link these two together for stock monitoring of the satellite receiver?
Heres the two products i sell http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Sma...html#aFerguson

      Tony,

You will have to make one of them the main product, say the stand alone one, you can then copy this one and 'Paste as Duplicate' to where the other instance exists. This will allow you to monitor stock of the main product. If the way this is presented is via an attribute / permutation then you can associate the choice to the main product and that will deal with the stock for you. You can associate the permustation to a product by clickin on the product tab against it and selecting the product from the list.

      Kind regards,

Thanks Bruce, I've tried using a duplicate but it does not really work as I cant put a different price on the duplicate (ie the diy kit) which costs more than they stand alone receiver and cant get around this by using components because of the nature of the product.

          ok...
          for your "kit" product
Add a component. Call the "Component Name" Ferguson Receiver or similar, and leave the "HTML for name" blank.
On the General Tab of the component, set the "associated product" up to be the receiver that needs the stock controlling.
Leave all the checkboxes underneath un-checked
          Quantity used 1
Leave "Is optional" and "Selected by default" unchecked also.

This should give you an "invisible" component for the kit...but *should* (emphasis on SHOULD) decrease the stock of the receiver when the kit is sold.

Could someone double check that for me too, please? In case I got any bits wrong!

Now why couldn't I think of that . I'll play around with this and let you know how it goes.

            Thanks a million

Only problem I can think of is it wont mark the kit as being out of stock even when the receivers go below 1 although it will not let you buy the kit after you click on "add to cart" telling you the reason is the ferguson receiver is out of stock which is better than the present set up I guess.
