Possible Bug? Sections without Section-Layout fields...

Bit stumped with this. Some of the sections of my store have the option to specify section-layouts (ie: 1 column, 2 columns etc) and others don't... all using the same template, so it's not a template issue that I can work out... using Catalog v8.5.0 HBKA

    EG:

    AirCooling Section... (http://store.over-clock.com/aircooling.html)

    WaterCooling Section... (http://store.over-clock.com/watercooling.html)

Both are sections directly at the root of the catalog. Both have subsections. Neither have products at the first level (ie: Each section is a sub-section menu basically). This means I have a bunch of sections whose subsections layout in a single column, which is how I want it... then I have another bunch that are all stuck at 2 columns, which just looks cluttered... note - there's also a distinct lack of the "Extended Information" tab too...
    Cheers!

    Hi Marci

I fired this off to support some 6 weeks ago without any success.

Come on CD and the boys, let us have a resolution within the forum for peeps to see why & what is going on with this?

It does look like this is an outstanding bug. I'd like to look at your snapshot if I may, so I can replicate this and pass it to the developers to fix. If you drop and email to cdicken /at/ actinic /dot/ co /dot/ uk, I'll give you some FTP details to upload a snapshot to.

There are a couple of workarounds for this to get you up and running again.

If you never really edit the settings in the 'Layout' tab of sections, you can go to 'Design | Library | Layouts' and edit the 'Layout Selectors' (round pink icons) which control the settings that should be appearing in the tabs. You can find out the name of the layout selector by clicking in the setting in the 'Layout' tab (on a section where it does appear) and looking at the bottom of the tab where it says 'Variable Name is ...'. That's the name of the layout selector. You can edit this in the library and de-select where it says 'Section' under 'Place of Setting'. Then select it again. This will reset it for the entire store, but it will appear for all your sections.

If you don't want to reset the layout selector, then all you can do is rename the section, then create a new section underneath it with the same name (and filename) and then move all the products and sub-sections into the new section. Then delete the old section.

This works fine - have emailed you with details for the snapshot...

          Hi

Resurrecting this thread as I'm having the same, or similar, problem with a clients site.

Some of the sections appear exactly as the screenshots from the OP, however, some are worse - the layout tab is completely missing, along with the extended information tab.

It looks like the sections I included in the original design (using Designer) are OK, but the sections that have been added by the customer (who is using Actinic Catalog Client) are the ones with the problems.

When I imported a snapshot from the client, the problem appeared on my PC, and even when I tried to add a new section, the layout tab was still missing. I was able to use the workaround above and reset the layout selector, but that's not an option in Catalog Client. Sending back a corrected snapshot to the client has not had any affect - he still has the problem.

Is this problem caused by the lack of design facilities in Actinic Catalog Client?

            Funny Tony

I have just experienced a similar problem with custom variables, they caused actinic to crash, looked exactly the same as the shots above, the big white spaces but under the properties tab

One thing which we sometimes recommend to fix this is a heirarchical export, and then a hierarchical import (repacing everything). Obviously back up everything with a snapshot before hand. This can often have the effect of resetting your content tree, and forcing the user-definable variables to behave themselves. It's worth a try anyway.
