    Shipping - totally lost!

Can someone please help me with my Shipping issues.

I have looked over the v8 guides, and in the forums, but I feel I'm digging myself into a deeper hole.

The problem is so simple, but I just can't seem to get it!

I am shipping to the UK only, and will ship first and second class. That's it!

I'm so overwhelmed with options in shipping, I can't see the wood for the trees. Can someone please point me in the right direction and how to set this up?

I also want to remove the destination (eg. UK, USA, Canada etc) but when I have done this before, I get an error saying that I had not specified a destination.

    Thanks guys

Ship by weight, include a default weight to cascade across products (most popular weight) and then on the products that are not this weight, put the weight in manually on the product to override the default setting.

    UK is your zone
First & Second Class Post are your classes

Add the weight tables with the associated costs to each of these classes.

    Job done.

Thanks Lee. I'm going to charge simply by quantity ordered.

Is this much / any different?

Most people start with this mindset and then swap to by weight within a few weeks. Shipping by weight is the easiest and best solution in my experience and for 90% of people this should be the first method they start to setup.

Actual weights and the associated costs do not need to be real, they are tuned to the specific situation and requirements of the site. As i am not building your clients site and have no idea what products they have, what shipping they would like and what costs they are wanting to achieve, it is almost impossible for me to answer with anything useful.

I took a stab at what you wanted and you want something totally different, it is the blind leading the blind without some idea of what you have and also what you want to achieve.

I'd use shipping by weight as well.

If you assign everything the default weight, then your shipping will essentially be by number of items anyway. i.e. the weight will be the number of items.

This also allows you to charge extra for some items by increasing their weight (if you ever get any heavy items or want to charge extra for insurance, etc)

            Thanks for that guys.

My problem is the set-up as opposed to weight or quantity.

I just don't physically understand how to set it up.

I don't know what to enter where, and am confused with the zones etc ...

I just want simple 2 class shipping based on (initially) number of products bought.

I also want to get rid of the 'select shipping destination' dropdown box, as all the products want to go to UK only. But when I have removed this before I get an error saying that I haven't selected a destination.

I'm also not getting an option to change the postage class in the checkout.

Can some kind person look at the attached screenshots and tell me if I've got it right?

            Thanks guys ....

ok...do these screen shots help? (theyre from my V7 version as my V8 version only has a single tier of shipping but you should be able to get the gist of it)

You are - you are obviously building sites for clients rather than your own so I would suggest you go on the design course at Actinic rather than pumping the forum for basic how do I design info

Was there really any need for this?

I have paid for the design course and support, but when I take it is really none of your business.

The forum has generally been very kind in offering information, so If you feel you would like to email me privately regarding offending you, then feel free to do so and we'll discuss it more then.

Then I suggest you go on it as you will find it saves you hours of time by being able to do simple tasks such as this. I am simply saying that as a commercial designer you should invest in your training rather than rellying on the forum as a way of supporting your business. If you think my remark is insulting then thats up to you.
