oops...undoing a font colour change in appearance

I was fiddling again (we need an embarrassed emoticon lol)

I went into a layout , clicked on a variable and changed the font colour through the "edit appearance" option.

It's given me an error on the page so I want to undo it but I can't work out how. If I go back to "edit appearance" it will let me select another colour..but it won't let me leave the line blank as it was before.

Selecting a different font colour just gives me the same error.

It's the variable for "SectionPageName" and I can't find an option anywhere that would change it back to default (it's within my "Collapso menu" layout which I can't use a "revert to factory settings" for!)

Anyone got any ideas? I just want the font colour line to be blank again like it was!!
Thanks....I really should stop playing with it

Well hopefully you created a snapshot before you peed around, if not, shame on you. If not then you should see the inline style added to the code if you expand it, it should at the very least contain 'color: #000000;, where the six 0's will signify the color you selected and probably is done via a 'span' statement.

actually, I did do a snapshot a couple of hours ago but it was before I had to do the patch to the HFUA version of 8.5.1.

Don't suppose I've done much on site since then (except tinker) I could try reimporting this snapshot and letting it upgrade again..

Changing it to to any hex value doesn't work. It gives me a parse error above my collapso menu on preview.
I obviously need to leave it blank but can't re-do this option

My own fault...you'd think I'd learn

      Cheers, Lee

Sigh i knew i wouldnt explain it properly.

The #000000 would be if you selected black, and the color(code) would change dependant on which color you selected. I was badly trying to explain that you will see this code in your layout. When you add a color, it will add that code into the layout, just remove the code or paste the code from the surrounding area and i will show you.

          I know, Lee
          I got that when I re-read it
trouble is, I can't locate the code in the layout at all. I'd changed it to red (is that FFFFFF?) so I could test very obviously what was changing (I'm a trial and error person) and can't find it now

I'll dig around..it'll be there somewhere
Thanks though..I'll be back if I'm still stuck (but then you knew that!)

                I knew that really

                It's been a long day
Fixed now thanks to my snapshot (now I'm thankful that support made me patch to HFUA this evening even though the scripts didn't work LOL)

I promise not to fiddle any more....til tomorrow anyway

                    It's a compulsion!

although maybe is probably should be tracey@trialanderror.com

                    It's much broader

                        I do, I do!
Only reason I hadn't done one prior to this evenings tinkering was because I was distracted by the blimmin scripts thingie-wotsit after I patched.
                        lol
luckily my previous 8.5.1 (old version) snapshot just ran through the upgrader fine
Have to say, if snapshots didn't take so long, I'd do them more often! (I already do at least 2/3 a day lol)

                          How long do they take?
I take regular snapshots (file size approx 34Mb) - takes an average of 2 - 3 minutes.

                            tbh, I don't really know. Around 5 mins (they're about 45mb)
My PC struggles to do much else while they're exporting. The laptop is better, but it (Actinic) does freeze on me occasionally if I'm doing other things on the computer while doing a snapshot.

I just need to time my backups for a coffee break...
That should be in the userguide somewhere LOL

For future reference.... when you want to undo a colour change on a variable, after having given it a colour usning 'Edit Appearance'. On the layout tab click on the first button you see '><' which is 'Switch between basic and advanced views' this will enable you to see the color assigned to the variable in the code so you can remove it, click on apply and revert view. You can then check in 'Edit Appearance' and see that it has a blank value now.

                              Kind regards,
